1 x Full time post is available on our paediatric ward

F64 22 bedded medical ward (2-16 years)

Highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals are sought, who will be able to participate and assist with the care of babies, infants and older children from the age range of 0 16 yrs years on our busy in-patient paediatric wards. The post is available on the medical/emergency surgical ward. You will be expected to provide support to children and their families during their stay in hospital.

We are looking for staff
  • To assess, plan, implement and evaluate care needs without direct supervision. Will be required to demonstrate procedures to and supervise qualified and/or unqualified staff
  • Act as a named nurse for a defined group of patients taking lead responsibility for the coordination and delivery of their care from admission to discharge
  • To take charge of the ward for a span of duty in the absence of the person with continuing responsibility
  • As nurse in charge of a patient caseload/area, is directly responsible for ensuring that cleanliness standards are maintained in that area throughout the shift
  • When taking charge of the ward/department for a span of duty, is directly responsible for ensuring that cleanliness standards are maintained in the entire ward throughout the shift.


Main duties of the job

The paediatric wards here at Sunderland Royal Hospital have a well-developed and organised team that offers a 24hr service, 365 days of the year. You will be required to work on a rota to meet the service needs and to ensure the highest standards of care are delivered. Posts are expected to be offered on a rotational basis.

You will be supported in your development, including training and educational opportunities beneficial to your role. We welcome applications from students who are due to qualify this year.

  • To be responsible and accountable for the delivery of safe, effective and compassionate nursing care for patients designated to their care.

  • To supervise non-registered staff as stipulated by the NMC under the requirements of delegation
  • Provide effective leadership and assist with the management and organisation of the ward/department in the absence of the Ward manager or deputy

Person Specification

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Ability to provide and receive complex, sensitive or contentious Information
  • Able to work without supervision
  • Competent in the use of IT such as Microsoft Office
  • Evidence of CPD
  • Knowledge of national health and social care policy
  • Knowledge of evidence based guidelines e.g. NICE guidelines, NPSA alerts, current nursing legislation


Desirable

  • Venepuncture and cannulation competency


Qualifications

Essential

  • Current NMC Registration in Childrens nursing or evidence of qualification if newly qualified


Desirable

  • Degree in Childrens Nursing
  • Clinical Teaching experience
  • Mentorship preparation
  • Teaching qualification


Physical Skills

Essential

  • Ability to assist patients to move as per Trust Moving and Handling Policy


Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working in an acute hospital or community healthcare setting


Desirable

  • Recent experience of working as a registered Childrens nurse
