Bedfordshire Community Health Services are looking for a part time band 6 Occupational Therapists to work within the Community Therapy team based in North Bedfordshire to support with making a positive impact on people lives through the D2A pathway.

Main duties of the job

You need to be responsive, have strong assessment skills with a personalised approach for a wide range of needs/conditions. You will then develop, implement, manage and review the planned recommendations.You will need skills in moving and handling, risk assessing and identifying solutions to reduce risk.

You will work closely alongside all members of the therapy team, as well as the wider multi-disciplinary workforce across Bedfordshire, building close links with professionals and services required to wrap around the needs of each individual to provide a holistic approach.

You will line manage and supervise qualified and unqualified staff within the team, supporting them to provide an excellent level of service to the local population. There is also an expectation to support student placements with opportunities to mentor OT apprentices.

Job responsibilities

Occupational Therapists play a key role in shaping and developing the service provided and so there will be opportunities to develop the role and service in a collaborative approach with Social Care colleagues and the acute settings.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • BSc Occupational Therapy Degree or Diploma
  • HCPC Registered
  • Sound understanding of Discharge to Assess Model


Desirable

  • Practice Educator trained and willing to support Student placements


Experience and skills

Essential

  • Significant and relevant post graduate experience
  • Experience of a broad range of physical conditions, treatment techniques and intervention
  • Experience of working with adult clients with primarily physical illness or disability
  • Detailed understanding of a wide range of physical medical conditions
  • Provide advice/support on clinical issues to other agencies as required
  • Ability to work autonomously and manage a complex and varied caseload.
  • Work and carry out assessments in clients' homes


Desirable

  • Experience of working within the NHS
  • Experiences of working within the community


Skills

Essential

  • Have a full UK appropriate drivers licence and access to a car
  • Able to travel throughout Bedfordshire in a timely and effective way to meet unpredictable service demands
  • Good IT skills (Word, Excel, virtual platforms and systmone
  • Work with clients, families, carers and other professionals of those that are terminally ill
  • Fit and demonstrate the use of equipment
  • Able to demonstrate a commitment to equality and diversity
  • Ability to analyse results of assessments and arrange/change OT interventions accordingly
  • Ability to lead and motivate othersommunication skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of mental health conditions that affect physical conditions
  • Detailed understanding of a wide range of physical medical conditions


Desirable

  • Have an understanding of Sepsis and other sudden, potentially critical onset conditions
