The post holder will work Trust wide and contribute to the building of a learning culture throughout the Trust and work closely with other members of the clinical education team and the wider organisation to ensure the provision of an excellent and equitable education service. The post holder will lead and deliver a range of projects to meet the requirements set out in the NHS Long Term Workforce Plan including overseeing clinical apprenticeships in CNWL and contributing to our work with students and placements.

This job description reflects the generic level of core competencies, skills and experience required to undertake the duties that are consummate to the Band 8a.

Main duties of the job

  • To monitor and measure success against agreed performanceindicators
  • To ensure that service users and carers are actively invited and involved in the development, delivery and evaluation of education
  • To share learning and development both internally and externally with our partners including presentations at events and conferences
  • To support the Heads of Clinical Education in leading and delivering against workforce development projects including clinical apprenticeships targets
  • To support nursing and AHP colleagues to challenge practice and identify and identify competency issues
  • To maintain a professional portfolio demonstrating clinical practice and skills

Leadership

Develop strong internal and external partnerships to meet the requirements set out in the NHS Long-Term Plan To lead and motivate staff to ensure a high standard of professionalism, efficiency and effectiveness, fostering a culture of continuous quality improvement. To be responsible for the ongoing development and sustainability of high quality and innovative practice and educational development within the Trust To support nursing and AHP colleagues to challenge practice and identify competency issues To establish and maintain an effective communication network both within the service and with key stakeholders across the Trust To work closely with the Associate Director of Clinical Education and the Heads of Clinical Education in the identification of services learning and educational needs, that reflect workforce development and strategic priorities To ensure all education aligns with other activities within the Trust to promote efficient ways of working and an inter-professional approach to education

Managerial

To participate in supervision in accordance with Trust policy To line manage a team of Clinical Educators and ensure that the broader education team is kept abreast of and involved in training developments To manage projects within agreed timescales utilising project management skills to ensure projects are delivered and acceptable to key stakeholders To be responsible for the staff development and training budgets relevant to this work stream. To support in the financial forecasting of current and future training & development programmes To support the Trusts commitment to patient, carer and public involvement in the way services are planned, developed and provided and to incorporate this approach in a way which respects issues of equality and diversity in all aspects of work To maintain external links with national bodies to ensure our practice is in line with national guidance

This is a Trust wide post and the post-holder will be required to travel to all CNWL sites .

Person Specification

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential

  • Professional registration - HCPC or NMC registered
  • Master's level qualification or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of continuous professional development


Desirable

  • Teaching Qualification


Experience

Essential

  • Significant knowledge and understanding of the educational needs of teams working in the NHS
  • Significant experience of managing, training and supporting staff
  • Significant line management experience
  • Significant knowledge and experience of clinical apprenticeships
  • Experience of having worked across professional and organisational boundaries.
  • Strong leadership and presentational skills with the ability to command respect from and deal diplomatically with all stakeholders
  • Knowledge and understanding on Quality Improvement


Desirable

  • Experience of developing and implementing new systems and procedures
  • Previously responsible for a budget, involved in budget setting and working knowledge of financial processes


Skills

Essential

  • Excellent communication skills, both written, verbal and other multi-media means
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with people from a wide range of personal and professional backgrounds
  • Ability to work without supervision and use own initiative
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office with intermediate keyboard skills.
