The Radiotherapy service at QEHB, with circa 100 staff, provide approximately 4500 new patients per year with world class radiotherapy treatments. The service is of the highest calibre and makes us a leading department, providing exemplary patient care twinned with the latest in Radiotherapy technology.

Due to an internal promotion, we have an opportunity for a Neuro-Oncology Radiographer to join our team. Your passion for wanting to work with neuro-oncology patients should determine the way in which you approach and expand the role.

Wanting to provide the best care & treatment possible, you will be committed to expand & develop your knowledge enabling you to attend oncologist led clinics to support patients throughout their radiotherapy pathway. You will work closely with colleagues to be competent at delineating organs at risk, independently reviewing patients and become an independent prescriber to support patients and manage side effects of treatment. If you feel you are driven to help develop the care we provide, have a genuine interest in neuro-oncology, are emotionally resilient, compassionate, empathetic and a team player, then this could be the role for you.

You will also be joining a team who have a strong commitment and passion for radiographer development, and there have been opportunities for our staff to present their work at prestigious conferences such as ESTRO and UKIO.

Main duties of the job

As the Neuro-Oncology Radiographer your day will be varied and a full list of the main duties of the role can be found in the attached job specification. However, as a key member of the team we would expect you to:

*Work with a wide multi-disciplinary team

*Attend new patient clinics, supporting the patient through their radiotherapy journey

*Take responsibility for the management, leadership and development of the pathway

*Be committed to expanding your knowledge and skills for interpretation of MRI sequences

*Cover one day a week clinically to maintain and develop your clinical competencies, working on CyberKnife is a potential option

*Escalate and triage queries to the wider MDT

*Opportunity to audit and present findings at meetings

*Take on the key worker role for the duration of the radiotherapy pathway, focussing on liaising and supporting patients, carers and families.

*Work with the wider band 7 team on operational input into the department and staff related matters

*Mentor, coach and support the development of junior staff

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • *Qualified Radiographer (eg. Diploma of the College of Radiographers -- Therapy / Degree in Therapeutic Radiography)
  • *Current HCPC registration
  • *Evidence of or working towards a further professional development and qualification
  • *Attendance of recent relevant post graduation courses and study days


Desirable

  • *Evidence of relevant MSc level study
  • *Non-medical prescribing
  • *Image requesting competencies


Experience

Essential

  • *Experience of recent clinical experience at senior level including IMRT and IGRT experience
  • *Experience in assessing and teaching senior and junior staff and undergraduate students
  • *Experience of developing staff clinically and professionally
  • *Experience of undertaking clinical audits and surveys
  • *Evidence of ability to successfully identify and manage challenging issues taking a problem-solving approach
  • *Evidence of a range of experience in improving clinical practice with the multidisciplinary team


Desirable

  • *Evidence of recent presentation giving on a local, national and international level
  • *Knowledge of indications of proton beam therapy. Experience of referral for this service


Additional Criteria

Essential

  • *Update to date knowledge and experience of Radiotherapy planning and radiotherapy treatment
  • *Evidence of assimilating information and formulate ideas/projects/developments
  • *Ability to communicate articulately (written, verbal and non-verbal) and provide information across professional boundaries
  • *Very good technical and manual dexterity skills
  • *Able to physically assist and position patients and handle common radiotherapy equipment/accessories
  • *Evidence of successfully managing own work load , ability to prioritise and time management skills
  • *Evidence of delivering to deadlines
  • *Evidence of leadership & management skills
  • *Ability to work across professional and organisational boundaries
  • *Evidence of proficient IT skills e.g. Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel
  • *Extensive knowledge of a range of radiotherapy techniques and equipment, together with principles underlying them
  • *Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 management system or equivalent.
  • *Evidence of commitment to continuous professional development
  • *Knowledge of national developments in radiotherapy techniques/advances
  • *Knowledge of IRMER particularly relating to working practices and responsibilities
