We are looking for a dynamic, confident practitioner to join our highly regarded APP team. You should be a forward-thinking practitioner, who has the ability to bring about change and the desire to develop and improve services. You must be an experienced MSK clinician with an interest and expertise in the management of patients with spinal pathology. You should be able to work independently and be able to demonstrate excellent communication, teaching and organisational skills.

The successful candidate would work in a different spinal clinics alongside Spinal Orthopaedic Consultants and independently offering both face to face and telephone consultations.

This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your skills working with our experienced spinal MDT, the team includes spinal orthopaedic consultants, APPs and radiologists who meet regularly. This is the opportunity to work for an NHS Trust with a dynamic, supportive, forward thinking team of spinal specialists.

If you are interested in developing your skills into being a spinal APP or are already working as an APP this could be the role for you. Supervision, training and mentoring will be provided by our other APPs and consultant colleagues.

Our current vacancy is permanent for 12 hours per week (2 clinics and administration time associated with the clinics). The clinics are in Ascot, Maidenhead, Windsor and Slough.

Main duties of the job

To provide an expert musculoskeletal assessment, diagnosis and appropriate onward management of patients presenting with chronic and acute spinal pain within the orthopaedic clinics.

To use skills extended beyond the scope of physiotherapy to aid diagnosis and development of treatment plans in the orthopaedic clinic setting.

To interpret the results of the assessment and investigations to determine onward patient management e.g. organise appropriate injection therapy, discuss any appropriate surgical interventions and place patients on the waiting lists when appropriate, make appropriate onward referrals to rehabilitation/Consultants/clinics and discharge patients directly from clinic.

To electronically triage GP referrals into the Orthopaedic Spinal service.

To provide expert advice, guidance and information to patients, health professionals.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Hold a recognised degree or diploma in Physiotherapy.
  • HCPC registered
  • Evidence of postgraduate courses / CPD e.g. MSc / Cert Spinal Manual Therapy / Acupunture / Manipulation Courses / Society of Orthopaedic Medicine


Desirable

  • Evidence of relevant postgraduate
  • Member of the relevant clinical interest groups.
  • Attendance at an introductory management course
  • Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP


Experience

Essential

  • Broad experience at band 7 level in MSK outpatients demonstrating evidence of competence and capability
  • Evidence of an extensive role in the supervision of less experienced staff, students and assistants


Desirable

  • Previous experience of working as an APP/ Clinical Specialist within musculosketal medicine.
  • Previous experience of working in the NHS in an Acute hospital outpatient setting
  • Experience of lone working.
  • Paper published in a Journal


Knowledge

Essential

  • Evidence of expert knowledge of spinal pathology
  • Advanced knowledge of other MSK pathologies


Desirable

  • Knowledge of spinal orthopaedic surgeries
  • Ability to interpret spinal radiographic imaging
