Do you have a passion for ophthalmology with patient care and quality as central to your values? Are you an experienced ophthalmic qualified nurse or optometrist working at a clinical practitioner level? Do you want to help develop a busy Ophthalmic OPD Advanced Practitioner team through an exciting change process where increasing number of patients will be cared for via AHP led clinics? Then this could be the position for you.

Main duties of the job

Due to the retirement of our current post holder we are excited to be able to advertise a Band 7 post (35.5 hours) as part of our AHP clinical team. The successful candidate will initially be working within our Glaucoma services and IVT services (1 clinic a week) with opportunities to develop skills in Corneal, Urgent Care, AMD and other subspecialities in the future.

You will be undertaking clinics both face to face and virtually within the glaucoma service to support both green and amber rag rated streams and will work towards competence in reviewing stable red patients in future.

Our IVT service is nurse led and we expect our AHP's to be competent in performing injections after a 2 week induction period if this is a new role.

About us

Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust (SWBT) is an integrated careorganisation with a budget of approximately £600 million and over 7,000 staff. Diversity and social care is at the core of what we do as the Trust provides Community and Acute Services to over half a million people in an urban centre that demands massive regeneration and has substantial premature mortality.

Our new acute hospital, the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH), opens this year and will provide care to our local population from first class, purpose-built premises. As a result, the base of this role may change to MMUH . If this is applicable to your role, you will be informed during the recruitment process and continue your application with this understanding. The development of the new hospital will play an important role in the regeneration of the wider area and in improving the lives of local people and reducing health inequalities.

We have three strategic objectives:
  • Our People - to cultivate and sustain happy, productive and engaged staff
  • Our Patients - to be good or outstanding in everything we do
  • Our Population - to work seamlessly with our partners to improve lives
