This post is a 12 month secondement to cover maternity leave. It is a fantastic opportunity for someone who has previously worked within an acute or community respiratory setting or for someone who wishes to expand their knowledge and skills within this area.
You will work with experienced specialist nurses, specialist physiotherapists, OT, dietitian, APs and support workers. You will be part of a rota that covers weekends and Bank Holidays.
Main duties of the job
For you to be responsible for the provision of specialist respiratory assessment and care within clinical settings and the patient's place of residence, to include residential care homes and nursing homes. Thjis will include assessment and treatment of patients with COPD, ILD, bronchiectasis and asthma.
For you to have and manage a caseload of patients which are referred in from primary care, secondary care and the patient themselves.
Aim to prevent hospital admissions, when possible, through providing treatment and support to those with long term respiratory conditions in line with national and local guidelines.
Promote self-management and empower the patient and their relatives and/or carers with respect to the individual's long term respiratory condition
Actively liaise with other healthcare and social care professionals as appropriate to ensure optimum care and management of individuals as part of their treatment plan. This may include pulmonary rehab classes and chest clearance.

- Recent experience in respiratory care in either an acute or community setting
- Leadership skills

- Spirometry procedure and interpretation
- Capillary and /or arterial blood gas sampling
- Able to interpret blood gases and prescribe oxygen accordingly.
- Use of motivational interviewing
- Pulmonary rehabilitation
Qualifications

- Registration with HPC
