The Nonmedical prescriber (NMP) in ADHD is a qualified and experienced nurse prescriber who will work autonomously within the Adult ADHD Service, providing specialist clinical assessment, intervention, and medication management for individuals diagnosed with ADHD. The NMP will play a key role in delivering high-quality care in line with NICE guidelines and current best practices in ADHD management. The post holder will also contribute to service development, clinical leadership, and education within the multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

Conduct thorough assessments of clients' mental health, social, and physical needs using recognised ADHD assessment tools.

Develop, implement, and regularly review personalised care plans, incorporating both evidence-based and person-centred approaches.

Actively engage adult patients and their families or carers in care planning and shared decision-making processes, providing psychoeducation on ADHD, available treatment options, and coping strategies.

Provide clinical interventions focused on supporting adult clients with ADHD in managing symptoms, setting goals, and improving daily functioning.

Attend psychoeducational groups for patients and carers, covering essential topics such as understanding ADHD, available treatment options, and lifestyle modifications.

Support medical staff in delivering information related to medication as part of psychoeducational programmes, without direct medication management responsibilities.

Conduct dynamic risk assessments, especially for clients with complex comorbidities or those presenting safety concerns.

Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to develop and implement risk management plans, providing input on clients' needs and concerns.

Job responsibilities

Provide specialist advice and psychoeducational support to colleagues both within and outside the Trust, fostering integrated care for clients with ADHD.

Leadership and Clinical Supervision:

Mentor junior staff, including nurses and healthcare assistants, providing supervision, guidance, and support on clinical cases.

Lead complex case discussions during MDT meetings, supporting team learning and development in ADHD care.

Support the induction, training, and ongoing development of new team members within the Adult ADHD Service, ensuring high standards of care.

Communicate sensitive and complex risk-related information effectively to the team, families, and carers in challenging or emotional circumstances.

Act as an active member of the MDT, collaborating closely with psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care for adult clients.

Liaise independently with external agencies, as needed, to coordinate care plans and facilitate joint work.
