Main duties of the job

We have an exciting opportunity for Sisters / Charge Nurses to come and join our Respiratory specialty team at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS). We have permanent Sister / Charge Nurse roles on the ward D6 Respiratory

What you'll do

You will be acting as a role model for nursing staff, encouraging effective working relationships and the development of a cohesive nursing team in Respiratory department. You will be responsible for assisting the Senior Sister in the management of the Respiratory D5 ward for a 24-hour period ensuring high standards of care are maintained.

We are looking for individuals, who are strong leaders that are highly motivated and have excellent communication skills. The sister/charge nurse role requires a close working relationship with the multi-professional team to ensure that evidenced based quality care is delivered with compassion to every patient. Person Specification

Qualifications, knowledge and experience

Essential

  • Qualified Nurse (Degree/Diploma)
  • Registered nurse on appropriate part of the register
  • Significant post registration experience / qualification / training, including experience and knowledge within relevant speciality
  • Ward management experience
  • Knowledge of current issues within acute Health Service
  • Experience in an acute hospital setting
  • Provide evidence of supporting / managing a range of learners in practice
  • Provide evidence of supporting colleagues to promote effective learning in practice
  • Ability to demonstrate clinical decision making and judgement
  • Commitment to the post and Care Group responsibilities
  • Commitment to continuing professional development


Desirable

  • Experience in handling adverse events and complaints
  • Appraisal skills
  • Act in the role of Practice Assessor or supporting the progression of learners / supporting challenges as needed
  • Some insight into budget management
