We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and experienced childrens nurse to join our friendly and dynamic team as a Nurse Specialist working within a team of band 7 lead nurses, band 6 nurse specialists, a band 5 staff nurse, band 4 play specialists and administrative staff, facilitating safe, high quality care and patient experience to the children and families who use our service. As well as delivering care in the childrens homes and schools, we provide telephone and face to face clinics from 6 different sites at:
University Hospital North Durham (UHND)
Darlington Memorial Hospital (DMH)
Bishop Auckland General Hospital (BAGH)
Chester le Street Community Hospital (CLS)
Stanley Primary Care Centre (SPCC)
Healthworks, Easington
Your nominal base will be Darlington Memorial Hospital.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide specialist assessment, advice, care and education to children and young people with bladder and bowel problems and their families, holding an individual caseload, as well as providing support and supervision to junior staff. Youll work as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure a holistic approach to continence. Much of our work involves improving quality of life and outcomes for children with SEND, so you'll be passionate about working with children and families with SEND.
You'll support us with ensuring that standards of care are set and delivered to a high standard and that these are regularly monitored and adapted appropriately in response to patient/carer feedback, audit findings and emerging evidence.
You will continually strive to improve the patient experience within the CYP Bladder and Bowel Service, and through regular monitoring, accurate data collection and audit, you'll support the Lead Nurses with initiating improvements that will enhance the patient journey, ensuring services are delivered in line with local and national strategy and evidence based care.

We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Job responsibilities
Our nurse specialists provide a wide range of services, including:
Providing specialist nursing care within the Childrens Bladder and Bowel service, delivering excellent patient centred care.
Providing care, support and education within the inpatient/outpatient setting for children, parents and staff.
Liaising with a multi-disciplinary team and coordinating the organisation of treatments, reviews and investigations.
Developing treatment plans and care pathways with other related specialities, which may include allied health professionals, education and the Local Authority.
Providing management support within the specialist nursing team
Undertaking Clinical Supervision and formal appraisal.
Delivering expert clinical care with varying levels of supervision as required.
Participating in the implementation of any nursing service developments that promotes compliance with clinical governance guidance and the Care Quality Commission standards.
Teaching and promoting our service to a wide range of audiences including children and young people, families and other professionals.
You'll work alongside the lead nurses and other specialist nurses to ensure the effective use of resources and clinics, and identify opportunities to continually improve the service.
You need to be able to travel independently to meet the extensive travel requirements of this role.
