Senior Specialist Biomedical Scientist - Haematology Quality Officer

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the East & South East London (ESEL) Pathology Network for a Haematology Quality Officer to help deliver an exceptional Pathology service.

We are seeking candidates with extensive Pathology laboratory experience, particularly in Blood Sciences, and expertise in method/equipment validation and ISO 15189 standards.

Key Responsibilities:

o Oversee internal and external quality assurance, ensuring UKAS accreditation compliance.o Develop, implement, and maintain the Quality Management System (QMS) across Haematology.o Conduct risk assessments, incident investigations, and trend analyses.o Prepare performance and compliance reports for governance boards.o Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, providing training and fostering QMS engagement.

Essential Qualifications:

o MSc in a relevant field or IBMS Fellowship (Special Examination).o Extensive experience in Blood Sciences.o Strong communication, leadership, and organisational skills.

The role is predominantly based at our Royal London Hospital site but with expectation to attend and support other ESEL partnership sites.

The NHS East and South East London Pathology Partnership is an arms-length organisation providing pathology services to Barts Health NHS Trust, Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. The Pathology Partnership is hosted by Barts Health.

The Pathology Partnership is based on well-established models for pathology networks, with the Royal London Hospital becoming the main hub laboratory for the network and Essential Service Laboratories (ESL) as a minimum at all other Hospital sites.

Pathology is made up of the following services - Blood Sciences including Haematology, Blood Transfusion and Biochemistry Infectious Diseases including Microbiology and Virology Cellular Pathology including Histopathology, non-gynae Cytology and mortuary services Immunology Cytogenetics and Molecular Haematology Immunophenotyping Clinical Transplantation and Retinoblastoma. The 2020/21 total operating costs across the Partnership were c. £126m per annum with a workforce establishment of circa. 822 WTE.
