The Pharmacy Department at Barts Health is one of the largest in the country and covers a population of 2.5 million. We provide clinical pharmacy and medicines optimisation services from our five hospital sites across the City of London, East and North East London.

We have embarked on a period of exciting change, which is helping us transform the way we work and deliver our services. We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced, enthusiastic and compassionate pharmacist to join our friendly and forward thinking Medicines Information, Safety and Governance team.

The post holder will lead and develop the Medicines Information Service. The post holder will manage the Medicines Information (MI) team and be responsible for the organisation, management and delivery of the service across the Trust. The successful post holder will support the strategic development of the MI service in line with local and national priorities.

Main duties of the job

Candidates should possess significant experience of working in a Medicines Information department and should demonstrate an ability to assess and manage risk. You will need excellent interpersonal and communication skills and have the ability to build effective relationships within multidisciplinary teams. The successful candidate will be a role model with the vision, insight and self-motivation to initiate and implement change.

Essential

  • oExtensive post qualification experience in hospital pharmacy
  • oSignificant experience of working in a Medicines Information or Advisory service
  • oExperience in risk management and governance
  • oAbility to understand complex issues, problem solve and propose solutions
  • oExperience in critically evaluating clinical data
  • oExperience in service management
  • oExperience of successfully leading and implementing service improvement and change projects
  • oExperience of protocol/guideline development

  • oDemonstrates expert ability in answering all Medicines Information enquiries, including level 3 enquiries

  • oIT literate able to use Microsoft office with intermediate IT skills including, accurate data entry and use of specialist computer programmes
  • oDemonstrates excellent oral and written communication skills
  • oDemonstrates strong leadership skills

  • oUp to date knowledge of legislation relevant to pharmacy practice, e.g. controlled drugs, Health and Safety at Work
  • oExpert understanding on medicine-related enquiry search strategies and utilisation of clinical resources
  • oExpert knowledge of MI resources.
  • oKnowledge of regulations and legislation relevant to Medicines Information, Safety and Governance


Qualifications

Essential

  • oMPharm/ BTEC level 3 Diploma in Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians or equivalent
  • oRegistered as a Pharmacy Technician/ Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC
  • oEvidence of commitment to CPD and maintains an up-to-date CPD portfolio
