The post holder will be responsible in conjunction with the senior leadership team for ensuring the cross-site maternity helpline meets the needs of service users. The post holder will be responsible for delivering a service that ensures evidence based advice to all women/birthing people, families and external agencies who telephone our maternity department. They will be responsible for assessing the need for women/birthing people to either attend maternity triage, Emergency Department, General practitioner (GP) or to manage conditions at home. They will also be responsible for signposting women/birthing people to other agencies. The role will involve 60% clinical/40% non-clinical.
Main duties of the job
Answer and manage incoming calls on the maternity helpline, providing accurate and evidence-based information to pregnant women and their families.
Conduct comprehensive assessments over the phone to triage and determine the appropriate level of care required.
Offer empathetic and compassionate support to callers, addressing their concerns, and providing guidance on various aspects of pregnancy, childbirth, and postnatal care.
Utilize your midwifery knowledge and expertise to identify potential risks, complications, or emergencies, and escalate cases appropriately to ensure the safety and well-being of callers.
Manage and develop a team of midwives working on the telephone triage.

This includes ensuring establishment and development of digital technology that develops effective ways of measuring outcomes, reporting on performance and supporting smart data collection and presentation of compliance and gaps.
