Within Radiology at the Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, we offer Ultrasound services in general medical, gynaecology, vascular, MSK, head & neck and paediatric ultrasound. Main duties of the job

As the Radiology Ultrasound lead you would be responsible for NOUS services across all sites of the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (NUTH) , also working in close collaboration with neighbouring trusts which we provide ultrasound services for, or provide in collaboration.Working closely with the Associate Director of Operations - Radiology, you are responsible for leading clinically, and managing the ultrasound service to help deliver a high-quality patient focused service.You would lead on Quality Improvement projects and programmes by working collaboratively with appropriate teams to deliver excellent patient care.Within the management team, ensure key performance targets are delivered.You would continuously review ultrasound services through the lens of improving performance to reach a sustainable or improved profitable state, whilst continuing to deliver truly effective patient-centred care.To provide strategic direction and operational leadership to NUTH Ultrasound services. To ensure effective and timely delivery of performance indicators and drive operational excellence, supporting the delivery of a High-Performance Management System.Responsible for the efficient and effective use of resources including development of robust recovery planning where deviation occurs.

Job responsibilities

Within the management team, ensure key performance targets are delivered.You would continuously review ultrasound services through the lens of improving performance to reach a sustainable or improved profitable state, whilst continuing to deliver truly effective patient-centred care.

Job Purpose
  • Accountable for strategic direction and operational delivery of an effective high quality 24/7 day a week diagnostic ultrasound service across all Trust sites and Trust led regional U/S services at other Trusts and outreach centres in the North East.
  • The post holder will be responsible for the safety, comfort and care of all patients whilst in areas of responsibility, ensuring a safe environment and good working practices.
  • To act as a source of expert knowledge for the clinical, operational and management aspects of ultrasound, underpinned by theory and experience.
  • To work collaboratively with Consultant Sonographer and Radiologist colleagues to drive the clinical development and delivery of the Trusts Ultrasound regional service.
  • Responsible for service adherence to all waiting time targets.
  • Responsible for shaping and implementing service delivery and improvement across area of responsibility.
  • Responsible for coordination and implementation of clinical trials within and external to NUTH
  • Professional lead for all Ultrasound related staffing.
  • Direct responsibility for all ultrasound equipment, its upkeep and maintenance, identifying all equipment replacement to Directorate Manager.
  • To direct U/S training manager in regard to all aspects of education within ultrasound.
  • Member of a team delivering a high quality efficient and effective ultrasound service, performing and independently reporting ultrasound scans as part of routine service provision

Person Specification

Qualifications & Education

Essential

  • HCPC registered BSc Diagnostic Radiography or equivalent with relevant post-graduation experience
  • MSc or PgDip Medical Ultrasound with appropriate clinical ultrasound and management experience.


Desirable

  • BA or MA in Management Studies


Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Proven experience in ultrasound service management to include managing staff and imaging equipment including procurement/replacement/maintenance and project management
  • Relevant experience in teaching and education to a post-graduate level.
  • Working knowledge of all relevant professional and NHS policies and procedures.
  • A strong CPD portfolio, indicating a breadth of knowledge.


Desirable

  • Experience in other aspects of healthcare as vendor or private health environment.
  • Experience in performing interventional/ advanced U/S procedures
  • Involvement in regional and national professional committees.


Skills & Abilities

Essential

  • The ability to work to an advanced clinical practice standard within ultrasound
  • Proven leadership, organisational and interpersonal/communication skills and able to demonstrate evidence of participation in change management and practice development
  • IT skills for Radiology Information Systems (RIS) and Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS)
