Main duties of the job

  • To effectively co-ordinate clinical activity and safely manage a caseload within the resources available.
  • To be a clinical expert and ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care demonstrating clinical leadership.
  • To be responsible for the supervision and development of junior nursing staff, support workers, and students.
  • To effectively manage outpatient resources including pay and non-pay budgets, human resources, and the clinical environment.
  • To contribute to the development of policies and evidence-based practice as appropriate.
  • To maintain a safe clinical environment conducive to patient care.
  • To maintain, participate, and develop the Service's adopted therapeutic approaches, which includes the participation in and upholding of the FT-AN model of care and its peer supervision model.
  • To work closely with the LNSP and other nursing and medical leads to ensure the smooth running of the outpatient service, and to take on the role as the service duty as required, which includes the triaging of referrals.
  • To work in collaboration with the LNSP and other senior nurses and the MDT to promote the outpatient family-centred treatment philosophy and the model underpinning the use of its Intensive Service.
  • To adhere to the Trust's Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults policies and procedures and act as a resource to other departments and services.

Education & Professional Qualifications

Essential

  • RSCN or RMN or RN (Child/Mental Health)
  • Relevant first degree
  • Willing to work to attain Masters level
  • Teaching and Assessing in Clinical Practice (ENB 998) or equivalent


Desirable

  • Relevant post registration qualification


Experience

Essential

  • Experience at Band 6 in an outpatient child and adolescent eating disorders setting
  • Experience of managing a staff team.
  • Experience of training and development.
  • Experience of working as an autonomous practitioner.

  • Experience in team building
  • Experience of service development


Skills, Knowledge & Aptitudes

Essential

  • Ability to work autonomously and also make an effective positive contribution to constructive team dynamics.
  • Excellent documentation, interpersonal, managerial and organisational skills.
  • Good working knowledge of the range and effectiveness of therapeutic interventions in the field of child and adolescent eating disorders.
  • Knowledge of Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, Children Act legislation.
  • Experience of working with interagency work, multi-professional networks.
  • Knowledge of legislation in relation to Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults protection procedures and policies.
  • Well-developed skills with the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to patients, their families, carers and other professionals.
  • Proven ability to assess mental health and physical symptoms, including the assessment of risk and the assessment of suicide and self-harm.
  • Knowledge of CPA approach.
  • Understanding of NMC/PREP requirements.
  • An understanding of equal opportunities.
