We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced charity fundraiser to help us raise vital funds for the Sussex Community NHS Charity which provides grants to enhance patient care and support staff.

The Charity has an ambitious new strategy through which it is striving to increase its impact, putting people at the heart of all it does. As Charity Fundraising Officer, you will be at the heart of this, supporting the execution of the strategy and the achievement of income targets across various streams.

Main duties of the job

With excellent communication, organisational and relationship building skills, along with experience of designing and delivering successful fundraising appeals and events, you will work as part of a small and friendly team, representing the charity internally as well as externally with donors and supporters.

You will be creating marketing copy and design for print and digital, including social media and the new charity website, so will need strong attention to detail and accuracy as well as creative flair. You will also need to be pro-active, able to prioritise and willing to work flexibly, including arranging and attending events across the area covered by the Trust which may occasionally take place during evenings and weekends.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Lead, promote, and coordinate local fundraising events and appeals, ensuring effective planning, marketing, sponsorship processing, and community support, in line with the charity strategy.
  • Support the execution of the Fundraising Strategy and the achievement of income targets across various streams including corporate fundraising, legacy giving, individual giving, regular giving, challenge events and community fundraising.
  • Administer the onboarding of supporters onto challenge events and other fundraising initiatives.
  • Supervise volunteers during events to ensure smooth operations.
  • Recruit and engage community and corporate fundraisers to organise events and activities, including securing collection tin locations.
  • Respond to enquiries from the public and Trust staff regarding fundraising and charity initiatives.
  • Encourage staff and the public to participate in fundraising activities by conducting site visits and presentations.
  • Contribute to performance reports by providing insights and updates on fundraising activities.
  • Maintain fundraising expenditure records.


Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • Professional fundraising experience, including designing and delivering fundraising events and appeals
  • Experience of producing marketing copy and design for print and digital.
  • Experience administering income and expenditure
  • Experience of managing multiple and sometimes conflicting priorities in an efficient and effective way
  • Experience of working in a target-led environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proven ability to influence, persuade and negotiate.


Desirable

  • Experience of using social media for business purposes, writing appropriate content, sourcing images, gaining permissions etc
  • Experience of grant-making or equivalent processes.
  • Full UK driving licence


Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proven ability to influence, persuade and negotiate.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Numerate and financially literate.
  • Able to work to own routines, priorities and deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Confident using a computer and software including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint


Desirable

  • Confident using graphic design software for basic design needs, such as Adobe Creative Cloud and/or Canva
  • Confident using fundraising databases, such as Donorfy


Other

  • Excellent interpersonal and presentational skills and the ability to establish effective working relationships across the organisation and externally
  • Self-motivated with good time management and the ability to prioritise and manage a complex workload
  • Able to represent the organisation at all levels including in public, with patients, senior management and external stakeholders
  • Able to deal occasionally with distressing or emotional situations and manage own feelings in these circumstances. For example, supporting families making In Memoriam donations
  • Able to work out-of-hours as and when required for fundraising events and presentations
  • Reliable and willing to work flexibly to meet the needs of the charity
