Main duties of the job
To maintain the smooth operation of the laser suite daily, calibrating the laser equipment and reporting any anomalies to the senior staff.
Directly supporting the Clinician during a refractive laser procedure, adopting sterile procedures accordingly. Monitoring safe stock control levels.
To assist in the co-ordination of the Refractive Laser bookings, liaising with Practice Managers and Consultants in the absence of the clinical lead.
To facilitate and support junior team members to develop their competence and skills which will enable them to become competent practitioners.
To participate in the clinical management of patients.
To participate in clinical supervision programmes as appropriate and to teach and act as a facilitator/mentor/preceptor to student nurses and others.
To liaise with the electro-biomedical engineers and external laser providers/distributors to ensure that the laser equipment is serviced and always maintained. Report faults and trouble shoot as required when lasers display error messages.
Engineer call outs are reported, and the documentation uploaded on to the EBME database.
To ensure that Standard Operating Procedures and risk assessments are developed, maintained and adhered to.
To facilitate and support junior staff to develop their competencies and skills.
To participate in the training and development of non-registered clinical staff within the Refractive Laser Suite.
