Due to the recent reconfiguration of the Emergency Surgical Floor an exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced registered nurse to join the Surgical Team as a Deputy Sister / Charge Nurse on Ward 18 Surgery. You will be based on Ward 18 but there is the expectation that you will be able to support across the surgical floor if necessary.

This is an ideal opportunity for nurses already working within surgery to increase and extend their skills, whilst beginning to become involved in leadership decisions with support of your ward manager and senior leadership team.

There are many opportunities to develop your leadership skills and you will be supported along your journey by all of the senior leadership team within the emergency surgical floor.

Main duties of the job

  • Act as a credible visible role model for all junior nursing and alliedhealthcare professional staff.
  • To actively participate with the discussions with the MDT, raising anddiscussing concerns and actively seeking acceptable and best outcomes solutions for the patients. Ensuring that patients and relatives views are heard and considered.
  • To support the department team in resolving clinical and operational issues on a shift by shift basis whilst ensuring that best practise nursing care is delivered.
  • To work in collaboration with the manager to establish a cleanliness culture across the department ensuring that patient environment is well maintained, clean and safe.
  • The post holder will need to maintain and supervise junior members of staff in ensuring that nursing care delivered to all patients is established on an individual assessment, it is with planned evidence based care, it is documented that it is implemented and it is evaluated as to its effectiveness.

  • Band 6 experience previously

  • Elective surgery covering colorectal, Urology, Breast,
  • Experience at a band 5 level within a related field

  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate on the telephone and face to face with patients, and colleagues, and be able to respond to those who may experience communication difficulties through language or understanding
  • Demonstrate good organisational skills
  • Physical ability and endurance to work in the physical environment of the clinical area required by this post
  • Able to complete delegated tasks set, follow and deliver instructions
