BAND 6 Deputy Sister
If you have an interest in Women's Health, are flexible and self motivated, then we would like to hear from you. A Band 6 Deputy Sisters post has become available in the Gynaecology Ward. If you want to work within a supportive and challenging environment we are looking for someone who is confident leader and has excellent communication skills and a genuine interest in Gynaecology and Women's Health. Successful candidate will be able to gain experience by working on the ward, triage unit and day surgery.

Main duties of the job

The Gynaecology Ward is a 20-bedded unit which is running alongside a 24 hrs triage area and day surgery. You will contribute to the smooth running of the unit, acting as a role model for junior staff and students, supporting the delivery of compassionate excellence. The post holder will be responsible for the training and development needs of a team of junior staff, with the support of the ward sister. You will work closely with the ward sister and other members of the management team and will deputise for the ward sister in her absence.

The post holder will need to be flexible. Previous gynaecological experience would be an advantage however training will be given to the successful candidate.

Person Specification

Education, training, qualifications and experience.

Essential

  • Registered Nurse
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development through maintenance of an ongoing NMC revalidation.
  • Minimum of 3 years acute care registered nurse experience
  • Evidence of achievement on a Nursing and Midwifery, (NMC) approved Mentorship qualification.


Desirable

  • UK recognised Degree in Nursing relevant to post.
  • Post-graduate qualification related to an area of practice.

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Able to prioritise own workload and that of others as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates ability to maintain and contribute to the development of standards of practice, conduct or decision making in conjunction with team leaders/ward manager/unit co-ordinator.
  • Acts as a role model and are able to lead by example to ensure the Trust's values and behaviours are reinforced throughout their area of practice.
  • Able to supervise non-registered and less experienced staff to ensure effective care delivery.
  • Able to effectively and appropriately escalate concerns to reduce risk and promote patient safety
