We are looking for a dynamic and highly skilled (band 7) women's/pelvic health physiotherapist to join our friendly, supportive and successful women's/pelvic health team. This exciting role is to cover the PPHS Perinatal Pelvic Health Service for CDDFT which is a new service set up following priorities in the NHS England long term plan. This service is for all women and birthing people ante-natally and for 12 months post birth. It has an aim to reduce, mitigate and treat pelvic health issues resulting from pregnancy and birth.
Patients will complete a self-assessment questionnaire digitally in pregnancy and post birth which will assist in triaging patients to advice, preventative groups or individual treatment. The post holder will work closely with the midwifery services and the MDT to embed evidence based pelvic health teaching and advice.
As part of the established women's/pelvic health physiotherapy team you will provide expert clinical interventions for these patients while acting as a source of expertise within the Physiotherapy team and beyond.
The iMSK service provides a robust training and supervision framework for all staff.
Main duties of the job
You will work as part of a team providing a comprehensive service within our womens/pelvic health physiotherapy team. You will have the responsibility for the physiotherapy assessment and management of pelvic health conditions of pregnancy and the post birth period. The caseload will include patients with comorbidities, complex issues and psychological trauma which will require a holistic and sensitive approach. They will be referred by self, midwife and primary care.
The caseload will also include preventative interventions such as virtual education groups and educational resources. You will work closely with the midwifery and MDT. You will be expected to contribute to service evaluation, audit and provide day to day clinical leadership to our senior and junior physiotherapists.
You will be expected to provide training, education, mentorship and appraisal for staff and students. As part of the role you will contribute to the development of professional practice and the transformation and evaluation of service, supporting research and innovation across the service.
You will work closely and be supported by your peers, FCP / ESP Practitioners, Governance and Operational leads.

You will deliver individual physiotherapy treatment programmes based upon sound knowledge of evidence based practice and clinical reasoning. The post holder will work as part of the MSK Integrated Musculoskeletal Team and will have access to specialist advice from ESP womens/pelvic health. The post holder will accept clinical responsibility of a designated caseload and organise effectively with regards to clinical priorities and use of time. The caseload will include preventative interventions including virtual educational groups and may require some working in family hubs. Close working with midwifery and MDT is expected.
The role will include teaching to midwifery and other staff about pelvic health issues, auditing the PPHS service and gaining service user feedback. There will be an expectation to involve patients from communities that are traditionally more difficult to reach.
Full membership of POGP by course or portfolio is encouraged.
You will work as part of the MSK Integrated Musculoskeletal Team and will have access to specialist clinical advice from ESP staff and FCP staff. This includes Upper limb, lower limb, trauma, hands, spinal, rheumatology and womens/pelvic health ESPs. You will also be supported by governance and operational leads.
The post holder will accept clinical responsibility of a designated caseload and organise effectively with regards to clinical priorities and use of time.
You will clinically support junior staff and students, delegating activities appropriately and monitoring the quality of care given via clinical supervision, mentorship and audit. Together with providing shadowing opportunities for students and staff on induction or rotation. Full training can be provided via local universities for student supervision / coaching and CDDFT provide preceptorship training if this is required, together with support on site for local processes.
CDIMS has a robust intranet physiotherapy site which is constantly developing which provides guidance on all local MSK and womens/pelvic health pathways, protocols and evidence based leaflets for your use as a resource. The LMNS PPHS project has worked to provide digital resources and web page appropriate for the PPHS service.
You will have a named ESP supervisor who will support your personal development plan and the appraisal framework. CDDFT support protected supervision time which is led by the supervisee for your individual needs. Pastoral support is also provided within this structure or alternative arrangement can be made to suit personal circumstances.
Shadowing and training is available throughout the full service with consultants, midwives, obstetrics and gynaecology and ESPs in all specialities. This is arranged within your personal development plan. The department runs In-service training sessions together with access to learning on e -learning for health. CDIMS use SystmOne for clinical note keeping - training can be provided to suit your individual needs. Test patients can guide you if you are unfamiliar with this System within your induction program. CDDFT provide a full induction program which includes mandatory training together with a local physiotherapy induction tailored to your needs. Training will also be provided with all CDDFT ICT programs as required. You will have access to rehabmypatient program for individualised exercise prescriptions for your patients, together with evidenced based leaflets on our intranet produced by the teams special interest groups. These can be accessed in paper form or electronic versions according to patients individual needs. You will have opportunities to develop leadership skills within the department and CDDFT offer training / CPD in leadership. CDIMS are committed to working collaboratively with the NENC ICS reviewing workforce planning and MSK projects. In addition we can offer support to physiotherapists requiring a return to practice placement for HCPC re - registration through an honorary contract, can also indicate on your application if you wish to be considered for this process. - BSc Physiotherapy or equivalent.
- Continuing Professional Development diary including evidence of reflective practice, post grad training to modular masters level and clinical experience in the field
- Significant experience in women/pelvic health MSK outpatient setting
Desirable
- Recognised relevant academic qualification in relation to women/pelvic health MSK conditions
- Injection therapy competent (MSc level training)
- An understanding of County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, its culture, strategic direction, achievements and NHS standing
