Clinical research is the scientific study of health and the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of illness. Not only is it important for scientific advancement but it has been proven that involvement in clinical research improves patient outcomes.
In Newcastle and our wider community, we have all the necessary ingredients to develop and deliver excellent clinical research. In an average year we recruit more than 10,000 research participants into a broad range of research studies and trials. These are supported by over 350 members of staff who are specifically employed to facilitate their successful set up and delivery.
This role will be joining the Ophthalmology and Non-Malignant Haematology Research team based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary as a Clinical Trials Coordinator.
As a Clinical Trials Coordinator in multi-disciplinary teams. You will set-up, deliver, close and archive trials, ensuring essential conduct to Good Clinical Practice. You will ensure Good Clinical Practice and local Standard Operating Procedures conduct at all times.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be highly motivated with excellent communication and interpersonal skills in a busy environment with a commitment to collaborative working along with knowledge of Good Clinical Practice, Research Governance Framework and Data Protection Act. You will be able to demonstrate advanced IT skills particularly Microsoft Office. This is a demanding role which requires an organised individual with the ability to work under pressure.

- To ensure any trials within the post holders remit, carried out in the Clinical Trials Unit are properly conducted according to Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Research Governance Framework and are compliant with the EU directive for clinical trials. (There can be multiple trials at any given time, in various stages of preparation, inception and completion.)
- All events pertaining to the treatment of said patients are reported in the agreed timeframes to relevant external trials organisations.

Essential
- Knowledge and expertise regarding the mandatory standards regarding conduction/construction of clinical trials (to include GCP/Research Governance Framework/EU Directive/Data Protection Act)
- Understanding of Trust confidentiality procedures (Data Protection Act, Caldicott guidelines)
- Knowledge of medical terminology
SKILLS

- Excellent inter personal skills
- Ability to communicate well (written and verbally)
- Advanced IT skills, specifically in database management and use of Microsoft Office applications
