We are looking to a recruit an experienced oncology nurse with a passion for education in paediatric and TYA cancer.

Oxford is the tertiary centre for paediatric and TYA cancer for the Thames Valley region. The role will support and deliver education across the region as well as in the primary treatment centre.

The post holder will be part of a national group of educators and implement a education strategy based on national recommendations and feed into the group showcasing local excellence.

Main Tasks and ResponsibilitiesTasks and responsibilities may apply to Kamrans Ward (OUH), or TYA team (Churchill) or Paediatric Oncology Shared Care Units (POSCU) with many aspects being intrinsically linked. The post holder should anticipate a 50:50 split between OUH and TVCA Childrens CAG network wide duties.

Clinical Demonstrate clinical expertise in the care of children and their families, working a minimum of 40% of the time in the clinical environment alongside staff Act as a role model to maintain high standards of practice providing highly specialised advice concerning the nursing care of children and young people with cancer. Lead in the creation of clinical environments across the network in which effective practice is fostered, implemented, evaluated, and disseminated recognising the existing expertise and training Remain abreast of the developments in clinical practice and implement/lead change and education as appropriate Contribute to quality initiatives within the clinical directorate Contribute effectively to the process of change and innovation Facilitate the implementation of changes to practice as agreed by the senior leadership team Implement evidence-based nursing care within the clinical units

Education & Training Assess, interpret and analyse current mechanisms of nurse education throughout the PTC and POSCU Trusts relating to the care of children and teenagers with cancer. Development and implementation of specialist pathways of nurse education in line with nationally agreed standards Oversee and support the role of clinical educators and lead nurses through the TVCA TYA and Children CAG Act as a practice resource for all trained nursing staff throughout our network Facilitate effective learning on Kamrans Ward and at POSCUs Promote evidence-based practice Promote learning resources including TYA specific resources Facilitate the induction, education and continuing professional development of trained nursing staff, non-registered clinical support staff, and if appropriate post registration student nurses. Advise the individual and the ward team about educational opportunities Awareness & promotion of TYA specific educational opportunities Assist staff to identify professional development needs that will ensure that the nurse develops knowledge and skills in their chosen speciality Demonstrate strategies that will assist in the integration of learning both in the practical and educational setting Participate in formal/informal teaching/training Attend and present at study days/courses, national and international conferences Co-ordinate appropriate orientation programmes for new staff.

Research Assist in nursing research within specialist area of practice Utilise and evaluate tools to audit educational and professional practice within specialist area of practice Disseminate findings to multi-professional groups.

Management Share Trust wide agenda and initiatives with multidisciplinary team Contribute to the development of policies/procedures/protocols relating to the care of children and young people with cancer that have an impact at local, Trust and network level. Work in collaboration with all members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure multi professional work and communication Contribute to individual staff development through OUH VB Appraisal in partnership with ward manager Maintain training records for all members of the nursing team in partnership with the ward manager Assist ward manager with identification and provision of learning needs of poorly performing staff Promote professional and personal growth and development for all staff. Planning, organisation and execution of specialist study days or educational opportunities available to a wide audience from across the network.

Professional Maintain own awareness of current clinical and professional issues Be accountable for ones own actions in accordance with the code of professional conduct. Actively participate in national specialist groups such as Paediatric Oncology Nurse Educator Group (PONE) and Teenagers & Young Adults with Cancer UK professional group (TYAC) to collaborate with other practice educators nationally. Network at national and international level Demonstrate a personal commitment to continuing professional development and lifelong learning Contribute and participate in the clinical supervision/action learning group initiatives within the Trust. Manage complex and sensitive issues surrounding performance and standards relating to network teams and other Trusts managing these challenges with compassion and diplomacy. Be sensitive to complex nature and emotional demands of caring for children and young people at any stage of a malignant diagnosis trajectory supporting parents, families and colleagues in extremely difficult and highly emotional circumstances.
