Main duties of the job

The Adult Critical Care team are currently seeking an experienced, patient focused, friendly and enthusiastic individual to join our existing critical care operational team. UHS is a designated major trauma centre and has general and specialist Critical Care areas, of Cardiac ICU, Neuro ICU, General ICU and Surgical HDU.

You will be responsible on a daily basis for all aspects of the operational patient flow across the adult critical care department, fundamentally playing a pivotal role in the day to day patient flow management of the 70bedded department. You will work closely with our site management team, our care group SPOC operational leads around the hospital, our clinical teams, matrons, care group manager and consultant teams. Attending and representing critical care at the staffing and operational flow meetings throughout the day.

Job responsibilities

You will be leading the coordination and work collaboratively with all colleagues to ensure throughput of inpatient activity, finding workable solutions, flexing capacity where possible and escalating as appropriate. And be visible to our critical care teams, contactable and be able to respond in a timely fashion during duty hours.

You will act as link with multi-professional teams, creating good collaborative working relationships across the Trust, enabling clear lines of communication in a way which supports the work of the care groups, identifying best practice in performance and quality.

You will take the lead on maintaining that our Business Continuity Plans are continually fit for purpose for the department and undertake bronze command role in an incident. You will be encouraged to undertake improvement project/s , independently and as supported by the senior team.

This role is a Band 7 afc post and the contracted hours are 22.5hrs per week. You will be working across a seven day week providing professional, credible leadership to the team.

Person Specification

Qualifications / Training Required

Essential

  • Educated to degree or diploma or equivalent level
  • Masters qualification or equivalent level of experience
  • Multi skilled in more than one area of speciality
  • Experience at band 6 level
  • Appropriate teaching qualification
  • Appropriate Specialist qualification
  • Certificate of formal management training
  • Aware of current NHS and professional issues
  • Ability to network and build relationships within and across professions


Desirable

  • Registered ODP/ nurse

  • Sound leadership and effective role modelling skills and evidence of transformational skills
