Barts Health Volunteers is an innovative and responsive volunteer programme supporting the five main hospitals across Barts Health NHS Trust.

Volunteers play an integral part in delivering our services here at Barts and we believe that volunteers add so much value to the experience of patients and visitors.

There are over a 1,000 active volunteers supporting a plethora of services such as: Maternity, Emergency Department, Older People Services. In addition we work with a larger number of external organisations including: Macmillan, Bliss, Breastfeeding and maternity networks engaging and involving local people in to an excited and varied portfolio of volunteering roles.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree and/or an appropriate professional qualification or equivalent level of expertise/knowledge in volunteer management


Desirable

  • HR management qualification (e.g. CIPD)


Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrable experience of volunteer management in an NHS setting or other related field
  • Experience of line managing support service staff
  • Experience of working with and building relationships with a broad range of stakeholders and diverse community members across a complex organisation
  • Experience of line managing support staff
  • Proven experience of success in service improvement and development in response to user group needs
  • Experience of building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders across a complex organisation
  • Experience of evaluating projects and services, making recommendations and change where necessary


Desirable

  • Experience of developing and delivering training to staff and volunteers of varying levels/backgrounds
  • Experience of project management


Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of the dynamics and complexities of volunteer management
  • Knowledge and experience of volunteer management including experience of recruiting and supporting volunteers


Skills

Essential

  • Willingness and flexibility to run occasional events and training outside normal working hours if needed
  • Able to demonstrate intermediate skills in IT packages such as Microsoft office as well as competent overall keyboard skills
  • Basic level of experience with databases, including Better Impact, Oracle
  • Physically capable of office duties, VDU use
  • Capable of concentrating within unpredictable work demands.
