An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and innovative Occupational Therapist to lead and develop the Older Persons Mental Health Occupational Therapy Service across Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board. This post provides a unique opportunity for an Occupational Therapist with significant experience of working within mental health, frailty or, primary care and community services. It is also an opportunity for any senior Occupational Therapist with significant experience of managing teams and leading and developing services, who has an interest in Older Adult Mental Health issues and Dementia. The post holder will work collaboratively with colleagues across the region in the co-design of new services, as well as ensuring the delivery of an evidence-based, high quality and efficient service.

We are an innovative team, developing new ways of working to meet increasing demands and this post will be a part of this exciting transformation. The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to work flexibly and creatively in both the leadership and clinical aspects of the role.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for the operational management and professional leadership of the Older Persons Mental Health Occupational Therapy Service across Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board. The Principal Occupational Therapist is also the Project Lead for our OT Memory Assessment Service.

Welsh Desirable (Level 3 or above in Speaking/Listening)

This role is categorised as 'Welsh Desirable' in Speaking/Listening meaning that whilst the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh, we'll consider it an advantage when short-listing candidates. Level 3 in Speaking/Listening means being able to hold a conversation in Welsh about everyday things and every day work matters. It isn't about being 'fluent' or writing long reports in Welsh. Just everyday, conversational Welsh so that you can talk to patients in Welsh and English.

Your main day to day responsibilities will include : professional leadership operational management of the workforce recruitment and retention facilitate education and training and provide supervision develop and implement evidence based practice collate and analyse data and outcome measures performance management of OT teams/services provide quality assurance to the Deputy and the Head of Occupational Therapy with regards Clinical Governance.

You will be the Lead for our OT MAS Project and, as this is funded by RIF you will work closely with CTM Regional Partnership Board and report to them in alignment with their performance and monitoring framework.

Alongside the Deputy Head and Head of Occupational Therapy you will be expected to represent the OT Service at a local, regional and national level. You will be required to highlight and promote the impact and value that Occupational Therapy makes in Older Persons Mental Health Services in CTMUHB and to Dementia care in the region influencing decision making, planning and policies.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered OT with HCPC
  • Evidence of ability to work at Masters level
  • Management/leadership qualification and ability to effectively lead a team
  • Specialist knowledge of relevant professional assessments and interventions
  • Knowledge and understanding of evidence base
  • Evidence of critical appraisal
  • Ability to analyse professional and ethical issues
  • Knowledge of procedural and legal requirements related to OPMHS
  • Detailed knowledge and application of principles of clinical and governance
  • Evidence of commitment to CPD


Desirable

  • Involvement in quality improvement and audit
  • Detailed understanding of the principles of partnership working
  • Knowledge of national drivers for Dementia care


Experience

Essential

  • Extensive post graduate clinical experience in relevant area
  • Experience of MDT and multi agency working
  • Evidence of working across organisational boundaries and managing change effectively
  • Evidence of implementing evidence based practice into own and others clinical work


Desirable

  • Experience at professional grade equivalent
  • Experience of advising and teaching


Skills

Essential

  • Professional confidence to represent service on relevant issues
  • Ability to reflect and objectively appraise own and others performance
  • Demonstrable interpersonal and communication skills when challenging situations arise
  • Demonstrable high level skills in service evaluation


Desirable

  • Ability to speak Welsh
