School Nurse - Band 6
1 x 21 hrs - TERM TIME ONLY
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated school nurse to join our Stockport School Nursing team and be part of our Stockport Family Integrated Service.
Stockport School Nursing service is part of the Women, Children and Diagnostics Business Unit of Stockport Foundation Trust, and is also integrated with Stockport Council in a Stockport Family organisation. Stockport Family works collaboratively across professional disciplines in order to improve outcomes for children and families.
The Stockport School Nursing Service has a passion for promoting public health through early intervention using restorative approaches with families.
The successful candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to be adaptable, reliable, approachable and effective team players. In addition, they will need to demonstrate an in-depth knowledge and understanding of issues affecting children and families and how School Nursing Services work with families.

- To lead a team to deliver the Healthy Child Programme to school aged children in line with service specification
- To contribute to the development and implementation of national and local priorities for children and families
- To contribute to maintenance of quality and service improvement in school nursing
- To prioritise, plan, implement and evaluate school nursing activities, in partnership with families and other agencies, according to changing health needs to improve health outcomes
- To be responsible for the annual health assessment of Looked After Children within the caseload, implementing and monitoring the agreed health plan and ensuring the health needs looked after children and young people are met
- Support the school nursing assistants with the delivery of National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP) and pro-actively follow up any child where BMI indicates a concern
- To participate in the delivery of RSE programmes, as commissioned, in line with your clinical expertise and competence, enabling children and young people to make informed lifestyle choice
- Offer continence advice, support and assessment to children, young people and their parents/carers and refer to other services as appropriate
- To undertake holistic health assessments of all vulnerable children and young people and ensure their health needs are met
- Offer confidential school nurse health clinics for young people to access advice and support regarding physical and emotional health issues
- Offer updates for school staff in managing the most common medical conditions in school at the schools request
- Undertake assessments of medical needs for children and young people with complex health needs in line with Stockport Supporting Pupils Medical Conditions in School Policy (2018).
- To maintain professional registration and work within the NMC Standards of conduct, performance and ethics for nurses and midwives
