The Medicine Division at Ipswich Hospital is looking to appoint a clinical flow manager to support the team.

You will be responsible for all area of flow within the medicine and elderly wards and will work closely with the Medicine clinical and operational team.

You will review the red day tracker ensuring that all delays are minimised and any actions escalated to ensure timely discharge. You will attend all bed meetings as the medicine representative providing updates on plans and the actions to be taken to ensure we have enough medicine capacity to prevent delays in admission.

This role will provide a clinical presence out on the wards helping and supporting the teams with all aspects of flow and will require you to identify appropriate patients to outlie should the need arise and also to identify solutions to create speciality capacity when needed allowing the medicine matrons to focus on quality.

Working predominately Monday to Friday 8.30am - 5pm but there may be times where you are required to remain onsite later to support the development of plans to maintain flow throughout the night.

We also have a Fixed Term/Secondment post available until March 2026

Main duties of the job

To support with operational / clinical management of all site issues as well as facilitating patient flow throughout the Medicine and Elderly clinical areas. This is with the objective of ensuring that the patient is admitted in a timely fashion, receives the right treatment in the right place and is signposted to alternative service providers in accordance with agreed pathways and protocols of care.

  • Collate, and be accountable for the accuracy of, capacity and escalation data for internal reporting Play a key role in ensuring escalation of clinical\operational concerns to appropriate key individuals within the clinical Divisions
  • Organise and prioritise own workload within timescales and schedules building in flexibility to deal with unforeseen demands on time and resources

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Experience of leading at a service level


Desirable

  • Non-medical Prescriber
  • Clinical Assessment qualification


Experience

Essential

  • Proven experience within a Coordinator role (or equivalent)
  • Awareness of influences on patient flow
  • Ability to balance various and potentially conflicting demands upon the Hospital 24/7 service and patient flow
