We are looking for candidates who have an interest in this exciting domain of Respiratory medicine. The newly developed Respiratory Unit offers a supportive learning environment which endeavours to constantly develop the service,
The newly developed respiratory unit comprises of 38 beds 11 designated Respiratory Support Unit isolation rooms and 27 respiratory medical beds. Staffing ratio within the ward area is 1 RN to 7 patients.
You must possess a caring, compassionate and positive manner and have excellent communication skills. The successful candidate will be expected to rotate from day to night duty to provide excellent standards of nursing care to complex respiratory patients with conditions including COPD, Asthma, chest drain/pleural management for pneumothorax and pleural effusions, tracheostomies and NIV/BiPap. You will be supporting patients through Cancer diagnosis and management of symptoms, whilst ensuring high standards of documentation and communication.
Patients are admitted to our unit directly from ED and others are referred from inpatient wards and some are stepped down from critical care areas. This position would suit an experienced respiratory nurse and also a newly qualified nurse with an interest in respiratory medicine and high dependency care.
Main duties of the job
Be accountable for performing regular assessments on patient needs, to plan, implement and evaluate care delivery and be adaptable to changing health care requirements. You will be responsible for establishing and maintaining effective communication with patients, relatives and carers to always ensure their involvement in the decisions about treatment, planning and the delivery of their care. You will take responsibility for working collaboratively with your team, other professionals and agencies to always ensure the patient's needs are met, especially in relation to their on-going health care needs, their transfer and their discharge planning. Be accountable for ensuring your daily practice fulfils your professional requirements as outlined by the NMC code of conduct and guiding documents
