An exciting opportunity has arisen for highly motivated clinicians to work as part of the Speech and Language Therapy team at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, a large state of the art teaching hospital. There are posts available within the Acute, Head and Neck and Voice Teams totaling 1.6 WTE positions, and in the Paediatric Dysphagia Team there is a 0.4WTE post available. The candidates are welcome to apply for one or more of the specialties and can state their preference on application. We welcome applications for part time and full time hours.

You will join a supportive and motivated team and will have access to a number of specialisms. The team are enthusiastic and innovative and are committed to evidence-based practice. Regular team meetings, support and supervision ensure a high quality of service is provided. The team also has strong links with the University of East Anglia, including the School of Health Sciences and Medical School.

Main duties of the job

You will provide specialist Speech and Language Therapy assessment, differential diagnosis, and treatment for patients with communication, feeding and swallowing disorders including the opportunity to contribute to FEES, videofluoroscopy, voice prosthesis management, tracheostomy and stroboscopy.

You will also provide specialist education, training and advice to patients, carers, SLT colleagues, other health care professionals, students, and voluntary organisations.

You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure inter-professional patient care for patients with communication, feeding and swallowing disorders

Job responsibilities

1. To hold and manage an identified caseload independently and to be legally accountable for all clinical decisions and professional actions.

2. To provide specialist assessment, differential diagnosis and appropriate, clearly planned SLT intervention and discharge planning for patients with a wide range of communication, feeding and swallowing disorders within the SLT team in line with RCSLT Clinical Guidelines and standards set by the Operational Lead/SLT Service Manager.

3. To demonstrate specialist knowledge in the areas of communication, feeding and swallowing disorders underpinned by current evidence based practice.

4. To adapt assessment and intervention techniques to the needs of the individual patients on an ongoing basis, including use of augmentative and alternative communication systems as appropriate.

5. To support junior colleagues in their patient assessment and management and identify the need for second opinions, referring to senior colleagues as appropriate.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

• Attainment of relevant qualifications in Speech and Language Therapy as recognised by RCSLT and HCPC.
• Registered member of RCSLT and HCPC.

Experience

Essential

• Post graduate clinical experience of working with patients with communication, feeding and swallowing disorders.

Desirable

• Experience with instrumental assessment (e.g. videofluoroscopy,Fibreoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallow, videolaryngoendoscopy with stroboscopy)

Skills

• Ability to manage independently a caseload of patients with communication, feeding and swallowing disorders.
