Are you interested in a career in the field of mental health dietetics? We are looking for a motivated Dietitian wanting to either expand or develop their skills, or learn new skills within an Adult Mental Health inpatient setting.

The post holder will work on Clarion Ward at Cygnet Nield House in Crewe where a Dietetics position is due to become available in May 2025 .

Clarion Ward is a specialist service providing assessment and therapeutic interventions to women with complex presentations, including a dual diagnosis of personality disorder and co-morbid disordered eating. The service offers a phased treatment pathway based on Cygnets Model of Care which aims to help the individual service user understand and plan their journey through treatment.

Clarion Ward will focus on the need for treatment to be collaborative with service users taking account of individual need, evidence base, driven by multi-disciplinary understanding, support and intervention and conducive to progression through the service, increased post-discharge quality of life and functioning and reduced risk of relapse.

Main duties of the job

What we want from you?

The Dietetic work varies between 1:1 input and group work, managing a range of complex presentations including nutrition support, weight management and disordered eating. The post-holder will provide a full Dietetic assessment of a individuals needs, resulting in an individualised Dietetic plan, and work in close collaboration with the catering team and wider multi-disciplinary team to provide specialist advice on oral and alternative feeding regimes.

Candidates should be a Registered Dietitian, preferably with some experience of working in a mental health setting, with excellent communication and IT skills. A working knowledge of behaviour change and motivational interviewing would be desirable.

We have a robust clinical supervision structure and you would have opportunities to receive formal and informal training. You will receive regular clinical supervision, with a strong emphasis placed on Continued Professional Development.

Will there be other dietitians?

This post is part of a wider national dietetics team at Cygnet. Members of the team provide services to children and young people, eating disorders, learning disabilities, brain injury and mental health inpatient services.

Everyone has a dedicated onsite line manager for day-to-day support and then an additional tier of professional and clinical support from our Clinical Lead Dietitian who reports to the Director of Speech and Language Therapy & Dietetics.

We are looking for a Specialist Dietitian with:
  • A degree / postgraduate diploma (or equivalent) in Dietetics, registration with HCPC (Health Care Professions Council) and membership of the BDA (British Dietetic Association)
  • Experience within a Band 6 role
  • Experience in the field of mental health and personality disorders evidenced by sound clinical knowledge. Experience of working in inpatient/acute settings would also be beneficial
  • Experience in developing ONS regimens (desirable)
  • Evidence of being a strong team player with a genuine desire to help others
  • Excellent communication / time management skills
  • Enthusiasm, motivation and passion

Will there be other dietitians?

This post is part of a wider national dietetics team at Cygnet. Members of the team provide services to children and young people, eating disorders, learning disabilities, brain injury and mental health inpatient services. Everyone has a dedicated onsite line manager for day-to-day support and then an additional tier of professional and clinical support from our Clinical Lead Dietitian who reports to the Director of Speech and Language Therapy & Dietetics. We also have a team of 50 Speech and Language Therapists who work closely with our Dietitians for dysphagia management.
