We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Physiotherapist to join our motivated and enthusiastic Surgery team working at Leicester Royal Infirmary. We are seeking applicants who are team players and enjoy the challenge of the acute setting.

University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust (UHL) is one of the largest and busiest NHS trusts in the country providing care for more than 1 million residents in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

The Therapy Service at UHL has a high profile within the Trust, this being reflected across our medical wards.

The Surgery team are responsible for delivering a service across a variety of wards wards at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, including Surgical assessment units, post operative wards and medical wards. Surgical specialities include maxillofacial, and both upper and lower gastrointestinal surgeries.

We are passionate about promoting the rehabilitation of patients following surgery and critical illness. Our team works with a wide range of patients with varying rehabilitation needs. We work closely with the MDT, especially Occupational Therapists, to provide holistic and patient centred care.

Main duties of the job

You will demonstrate excellent communication, prioritisation and time management skills. This post will be suitable for a candidate who has a wide range of rotational experience, particularly with older people with a variety of comorbidities for example Parkinson's, falls and fractures.

You will join a supportive team of Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists in the Surgery team. You will receive regular supervision, appraisal and be encouraged to be involved in service development, audit and research. You will be expected to support and supervise other staff as well as provide practice placements for students.

The successful candidate would need to be flexible in their working as the service is provided over 7 days a week. The team are working to provide a collaborative approach to therapy across all systems.

About us

Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).

We have four primary goals:
  • high-quality care for all,
  • being a great place to work,
  • partnerships for impact, and
  • research and education excellence

And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.

Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:
  • we are compassionate,
  • we are proud,
  • we are inclusive, and
  • we are one team

This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
