We are excited to recruit a Staff Nurse to join the Galaxy House team.

Galaxy House is an expanding service that treats young people with demanding physical and emotional issues. You must be motivated and passionate about working with young people with mental health concerns, as the job can be physically and emotionally demanding as well as rewarding.The department is based in the grounds of the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital and the service is QNIC accredited. We look after young people up to the age of eighteen years and are a twelve bedded service.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a Registered Nurse with a specific interest in Children and Young People's Mental Health. You will need either a degree or Diploma in Mental Health Nursing or Children's Nursing, or have a RN qualification, with CAMHS experience and must be able to show a demonstrative interest and experience in working with Child and Adolescent Mental Health (CAMHS).

In return we will provide a comprehensive induction program and you will be appraised on a yearly basis with a view to developing knowledge and skills where appropriate.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:

Provide direct patient care

Be responsible for ensuring immediate care to relevant client group

Practice in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and Trust policies in order that a safe and quality service is provided.

Take delegated responsibility for the management of the clinical team on a shift basis, taking overall responsibility for effective management of the team and the maintenance of high standards of quality care in the clinical area.

Post holders will be expected to participate fully in their personal development and review process in order to achieve the knowledge and skills identified in their appraisal for this post. Newly qualified post holders will undergo a period of structured preceptorship as part of their personal development.

  • Experience of working on own and as part of a team Ability to supervise and support junior staff. Evidence of teaching andassessing skills/ability

Knowledge, skills and abilities

Essential

  • Up to date knowledge of child mental health and relevant legislation.
  • Advanced knowledge and skills in delivery of evidence based practice
  • To be able to function as a part of a multi-disciplinary team and to liaise effectively with other agencies i.e., education, GP's, maintaining positive working relationships.
  • The ability to work with people from a range of different backgrounds, cultures and or different ages.
  • The ability to maintain clinical records both written and electronic.
  • The ability to reflect on and critically appraise own performance.
  • The ability to cope with stressful situations including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the case of highly emotive and distressing problems.
  • Knowledge of clinical governance IT/work processing skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to organise workload and delegate tasks appropriately.
  • Proven ability to problem- solve.
  • Demonstrates awareness of own limitations.
