Job description

Job responsibilities

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity? We are looking for a self motivated and driven individual to help deliver prescribing teaching to medical students at the University of Southampton. This is a fixed term post for 12 months and is 0.4 WTE Band 8a.

You will work closely with the lead for prescribing and deliver teaching material both in person and via online platforms. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to writing exam questions.

You will be involved in delivering teaching students through years 1-5 at the Highfield campus and also at SGH.

You will have some experience of teaching both small (< 20) and large (< 150) groups of students

Main Responsibilities

- Deliver teaching to medical students across the whole of the undergraduate programme- Develop new teaching material on specific clinical areas- Be actively involved in the marking of exam papers throughout the academic year- Attend meetings with year group leads- Revise material that has already been prepared- Provide a clinical service to a specialist clinical area- Write exam questions (undergraduate & PSA)- Involvement with running and marking OSCEs

What we are looking for- A registered pharmacist with relevant experience- Proven track record of teaching- Evidence of a dynamic, self-driven and motivated individual- Flexibility- Contribution to the education and training of other AHP teaching sessions- Able to structure your own working week whilst ensuring the delivery of the core material- Willingness to learn

There is sufficient opportunity within this role to develop your own style of teaching and also network with other facilitators across the Wessex deanery. This will provide you with lots of opportunities to work on your RPS portfolio.

Qualifications, knowledge and experience

Essential

  • Masters Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent.
  • Registered with General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • Postgraduate diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent experience.
  • Can demonstrate Advanced Stage 1 competencies in the RPS Advanced Pharmacy Framework in relation to medical or surgical patients
  • Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Sound knowledge of clinical pharmacy services acquired while working within a suitable specialty.
  • Experience of audit and evaluative work
  • Teaching and tutoring experience
  • Experience of supervising others
  • Experience of implementing change and change management
  • Development and implementation of guidelines and procedures.
  • Experience of change management


Desirable

  • Management qualification or equivalent experience MSc in clinical pharmacy or equivalent experience.
  • Independent Prescribing qualification.
  • Can demonstrate Advanced Stage 2 or Mastery competencies in the RPS Advanced Pharmacy Framework in relation to medical or surgical patients
  • Leadership qualification or experience
  • Sound understanding of healthcare priorities and political agendas.
  • Training in medicines information.
  • Project Management training or qualification
  • Experience of managing others
