We have exciting opportunities available for Band 5 Staff Nurses in Endoscopy at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital

We need dynamic, enthusiastic nurses who are looking to expand their skills into a fast-paced specialty. Endoscopy is changing and developing all the time, with new and advanced techniques. Our nurses work in all areas of endoscopy, including pre assessment, admissions, procedures, recovery and our on-call service. An existing NMC registration is essential for all applicants.

Support and Training is a huge priority for us in Endoscopy. Full training and support will be provided, and we have developed a specific competency framework, in line with the JETs Workforce programme, to ensure your development is structured and clear.

Main duties of the job

*The post holder will work according to the NMC Code of Professional Standards of Practice and Behaviour and relevant professional guidelines and be accountable for their own professional actions

*The post holder must use up to date knowledge and evidence to assess, plan, deliver and evaluate care, communicate findings, influence changes and promote health and best practice

*The post holder must achieve and maintain competence in identified mandatory and statutory training, develop and maintain clinical competencies, skills and knowledge which relate to the area of clinical practice

*The post holder must respond to patients, relative and carers concerns as they arise and take remedial action as required

*The post holder will take charge of the practice setting as required/ or a defined area of the practice setting

*The post holder will assume responsibility for undertaking tasks delegated by the nominated line/shift manager. This may include representing the practice setting at meetings, link nurse responsibilities, audit, governance initiatives and supervision and role competence assessments for unregistered nurses and students/ trainees

*The post holder will contribute to the development of service and quality improvement initiatives within a collaborative framework to enhance patient experience and outcome and ensure standards of care are monitored and maintained at the highest level

Qualifications

Essential

  • *Evidence of professional and clinical knowledge acquired through training to degree/diploma level leading to Professional registration on the appropriate part of the NMC register i.e. ( Adult / Child / Learning Disability or Mental Health)
  • *Evidence of undergraduate education for newly qualified nurses / or post graduate continuing professional development for registered nurses who have post registration experience


Experience

Essential

  • *Previous / recent experience or working in an acute secondary health and care setting (can include undergraduate student placements within the last 12 months)
  • *Willingness to become a practice supervisor / assessor to or meets Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) standards for student supervision and assessment
  • * Demonstrable understanding and knowledge of the NMC code of conduct and the proficiencies and standards for registered nurses can apply this to undergraduate training or post graduate practice
  • *Being an accountable professional
  • *Promoting health and preventing ill health
  • *Assessing needs and planning care
  • *Providing and evaluating care
  • *Leading and managing nursing care and working in teams -- including prioritisation and delegation skills
  • *Coordinating care and responding to deteriorating health
  • *Improving safety and quality of care
  • *Awareness of current relevant clinical and professional issues and NHS policy
  • *Understanding / experience of the principles of Safeguarding and Mental Capacity
  • *Awareness of Health and Safety issues.


Desirable

  • *Experience in working in an Acute NHS practice setting as an undergraduate student nurse or post graduate registered nurse.


Additional Criteria

Essential

  • *Demonstrable communication and relationship management skills which include
  • *Listening -- writing -- reading -- speaking in English with understanding of contemporaneous record keeping
  • *Good IT skills ability to record information electronically
  • *Competent in a range of clinical skills/ nursing procedures willingness to undertake expanded practices relevant to the scope of practice require
  • *Competent in managing the care of a group of patients / shift management (take charge of the practice setting in the absence of more senior staff) relevant to the practise setting.
  • *Professional appearance
  • *Displays genuine interest in the post applied for
  • *Positive and enthusiastic attitude
  • *Caring and approachable
  • *Ability to work a varied shift pattern including nights / weekends unsocial hours where required
  • *The applicant can describe why the Trust may deploy him /her to a different practice setting for a span of duty.
