Join our busy network team supporting the Royal and Broadgreen Hospital networks. This role covers working as part of a team to support the voice and data networks.

Main duties of the job

Manage and resolve primarily 3rd line incidents assigned to the Network Team in accordance with the Incident Management process. These incidents, which are by definition complex and require specialist knowledge. This may require prolonged analysis and interpretation of complex data and/or statistical reports, to determine the root cause and provide adequate steps to resolve the problem.

May also be required to manage and resolve some 1st and 2nd line incidents.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To provide support in the operational management, implementation, and maintenance of voice and data communication networks within the appropriate networks team assisting in the provision of continuous and acceptable service to all end users.

To provide support in delivering cabling requirements to provide long term resilient infrastructures capable of supporting the joint needs for data and telecoms.

To provide support in the enforcement of policies and procedures covering security and integrity of the Trusts communication systems and networks to protect against unauthorised access or loss of revenue through system fraud.

To carry out the installation and commissioning of network equipment involving some complex work with tools, some lifting of heavy equipment and requiring significant keyboard skills to ensure accuracy when programming this. Occasionally this will involve working in dirty and difficult areas.

The post holder will be required to contribute to the development and implementation of Key Performance Indicators.

The post holder will be required to monitor and manage delivery against these targets and produce regular management reports detailing performance levels and provide supporting information to explain improvements or degradation in service.

Provide specialist technical advice to other staff within Digital ServicesAccurate, concise recording of Incident actions within the Service Management Software. Record appropriate resolution details in the service management software, selecting the relevant resolution categories contributing to the Knowledge Base.

Assist in reactive and pro-active problem management activities as defined by the Senior Digital Services Team.

To be conversant with the client/server Infrastructure and system management utilities used in the Trust, performing advanced support and troubleshooting.

As required, provide technical input into key projects and also manage internal systems project work.

Create, update and authorize technical procedures for use by members of the Digital support teams.The post holder will be required to participate in an out of hours on-call rota, working autonomously to resolve all IT incidents critical to the Trust functioning out of normal working hours. This may involve visits to all areas where IT is used, which includes but not limited to patient areas such as wards, labs, theatres, AED etc.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Relevant first degree or equivalent
  • To hold or be working toward the CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) or equivalent technical qualification or equivalent experience
  • ITIL Foundation (or equivalent experience)


Experience

Essential

  • Experience in providing Network/Telecoms Support. (or equivalent IT experience)
  • Experience of using Microsoft Office applications, and ECDL qualified (or equivalent experience)
  • Experience of working in the NHS
  • Experience of being responsible for financial or physical assets, particularly the management of contractors


Skills

Essential

  • Ability to communicate complex issues with staff at appropriate levels with service providers, service users, and professional bodies outside of the service. To train and instruct others in the use of network services
  • Team building skills
  • Ability to deliver change


Knowledge

Essential

  • Specialist knowledge and experience in telecoms and/or data networks and systems
  • Knowledge of Cisco networking
