The purpose of this job role is to support the existing Health Visiting team in the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme. This is a specialist role, and the successful applicant will carry a caseload of families and individuals with additional needs and vulnerabilities. This will strengthen the existing safeguarding arrangements, focussing on the assessment of need and working collaboratively with stakeholders to improve public health outcomes. The post holder will have an in-depth knowledge of safeguarding and will attend statutory safeguarding and multi-agency meetings as required. This is an opportunity to develop their professional skills in safeguarding whilst maintaining a caseload. We are looking for individuals with excellent communication skills and a strong approach to teamwork.

Main duties of the job

  • Contributing and participating in the delivery of a comprehensive Health Visiting service in line with the Healthy Child Programme, local service specifications and service model for health visiting that meets the public health needs of local communities.
  • Contributing to the delivery of the standards outlined in Working Together to Safeguard Children (2018) and the Care Act (2014) for children, families, and adults at risk.
  • The post holder will participate and contribute to meeting the objectives of the Barnet Safeguarding Children Partnership (BSCP)
  • To support the team in providing safeguarding supervision for other members of the team on an ad hoc basis.
  • To support the delivery and participate in relevant safeguarding children training both internally and externally where required.
  • To work with the Named Nurse and Safeguarding Supervisors in undertaking audits as required.
  • To provide expert advice and support whilst demonstrating advanced skills and competencies, to other members of the health visiting team.
  • To ensure the delivery of the highest quality service, whilst meeting the demands and pace of change.

Person Specification

Education / Professional Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse
  • RHV
  • Minimum 2 years HV qualification & practice
  • Evidence of recent continuing professional development
  • Understanding of wide ranging DH and NHS policy, initiatives, national service frameworks etc in delivering patient centred care.
  • Evidence of Safeguarding training modules


Desirable

  • Masters or equivalent experience


Skills & Abilities

Essential

  • Highly developed written & verbal communication skills
  • Evidence of analytical and problem solving skills
  • Evidence of providing motivational, professional leadership with highly developed interpersonal skills
  • Evidence of persuasion and negotiation skills.
  • Skilled trainer, mentor, supervisor or coach
  • Practice assessor/supervisor


Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Understanding of Health Visiting specific DH and NHS policy, initiatives, national service framework
  • Good understanding of both child and adult safeguarding policies, processes nationally & locally.
  • Experience in up to date service delivery in the safeguarding arena.
  • Understanding or wide ranging DH and NHS policy, initiatives, national service frameworks etc. in delivering patient centred care.
  • Achievement of high quality patient care through evidence based practice
  • Management of change
  • Line management of staff/skill mix.
