The Specialist Perinatal Service is a well-established multidisciplinary community team providing a range of tailored approaches to meet the mental health needs of women, birthing people, and their families in the perinatal period. We were recently recognised at GMMH's Celebrating Excellence Awards.

Our core purpose is to work with women, birthing people to address their mental health needs and mitigate any impact on the unborn baby and infant. We aim to provide a timely, integrated, high quality, and effective service.

Main duties of the job

The principal purpose of this job is to improve the psychological health and wellbeing of mothers, birthing people who have complex mental health needs and their babies. This will be achieved in this post through undertaking the following areas of responsibility:

1. To work with the Team Managers and Principal Clinical Psychologist to ensure the systematic provision of a high-quality psychological service in the Specialist Perinatal Service.

2. To carry a caseload of clients, providing psychological assessment, formulation, and intervention, and providing advice and consultancy to patients and professionals.

3. To provide supervision and consultation for staff employed by the Specialist Perinatal Service.

4. To work autonomously within professional guidelines and exercise responsibility for the systematic governance of psychological practice within professional and Trust guidelines.

5. To receive regular professional and clinical supervision in accordance with Trust policy and professional practice guidelines set out by the appropriate designated professional body.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential

• Professional qualification in Clinical / Counselling Psychology at doctoral level (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996)
• Registration as a Clinical Psychologist / Counselling Psychologist with the HCPC

Desirable

• Post qualification training in a specialised area of psychological practice (e.g CBT, IPT, EMDR, Systemic, CAT, DBT etc) oCompleted formal training in supervision
• Training in recognised Parent Infant Mental Health courses
• Completed formal training in supervision

Experience
Essential

• oExperience of working as a qualified psychological therapist
• oExperience of working with client groups experiencing moderate-severe mental health problems across the life span
• oExperience of delivering structured psychological interventions to clients with complex psychological problems
• oExperience of working with trauma and providing trauma-focused psychological therapy
• oExperience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care and treatment
• oExperience of working within a multidisciplinary team

• oExperience of providing teaching and training

Knowledge

• oDoctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis as practiced within the field of psychology
• oHighly developed knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies in difficult to treat groups (e.g. personality disorder, dual diagnosis, people with additional disabilities etc)
• oPractitioner level knowledge of the theory and practice of at least two specialised psychological therapies
• oEvidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
