This is an exciting opportunity for a newly or recently qualified Clinical or Counselling Psychologist who is keen to take on the challenges of working in a new role in a diverse borough with people with severe and enduring mental health difficulties and with clients from a range of religious, cultural and ethnic backgrounds. The post holder will be expected to work alongside other Psychologists, including a Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologist who will also provide supervision.

Main duties of the job

This is a fixed term Psychology role within Tower Hamlets Community 24/7 service pilot. The pilot ensures delivery of high quality, modern, patient-centered services. This is a pilot project aimed to establish and test out a new model of care that breaks down current barriers to care, is nonrestrictive, co-produced, culturally sensitive and accessible. The service will run 24hrs a day, 7 days a week for people residing in the catchment area offering open access to a range of psycho-social- medical Interventions at every stage of their wellness journey, this includes short term Hospitality stays for those in crisis, and community based offers that are embedded in the neighbourhood.

The Team is multi-disciplinary and multi-agency and committed to co-production, facilitation and liaison with service users, local residents, local VCSE, health and social care services in order that people with co-morbid physical and mental health conditions, experience good outcomes for their mental health. The role involves, as part of a Multi-Disciplinary team:

Setting up, implementing and reviewing appropriate care plans and supporting and advising relatives and care givers.

Ensuring that co-production is at the core of the role

Ensuring that compassion and empathy are central to care delivery

Promoting the needs of service users with mental health needs and offering and providing training and education whenever possible.

In conjunction with the crisis pathway services, providing a safe and effective urgent community assessment and treatment response service.

Undertaking comprehensive assessments, including risk formulation, effectively and efficiently

formulate and agree crisis safety care plans and to support and advise relatives and care givers.

Person Specification

Education/ Qualification/ Training

Essential

• Doctorate or equivalent in Clinical or Counselling Psychology
• HCPC registration

Desirable

• Further training in a therapeutic modality relevant to severe and enduring mental health

Experience

Essential

• At least 2-years' experience of working in the NHS
• Work with at least three client groups.
• Experience of working in a multidisciplinary mental health setting.
• Work within at least two therapeutic modalities.
• Experience of planning and exercising clinical responsibility for service users' psychological care and treatment within the context of a multidisciplinary care plan.
• Work in a multi-cultural setting, including working with interpreters.

Desirable

• Some experience of teaching, training and supervision.
• Placement experience within severe and enduring mental health provision.
• Experience of developing and delivering specialist training programmes.
• Experience of the application of psychology in different cultural contexts.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

• Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management, including the use of theoretical models to analyse information and to develop formulations upon which to base choice of treatment.
• Skills in the effective communication of highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to a wide variety of recipients in a range of settings within and outside the NHS, including the ability to produce comprehensive and coherent letters, reports and associated documentation
• Well developed communication skills at overcoming barriers to understanding and acceptance.
• Skills in working in multidisciplinary settings.
• Skills in providing advice and consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
• Working knowledge of the practices and approaches of other key disciplines, professions and agenciesinvolved in the care and management network, including medical, employment, social, educational and criminal justice systems.
• Knowledge of legislation in relation mental health.
• Evidence of CPD as recommended by BPS.
• Competence in advanced IT packages including keyboard skills.
• Ability to support and co-ordinate the work of psychology colleagues within the team/service.
• Ability to co-ordinate the recording and reporting of clinical information as required.

Desirable

• Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies in specific difficult - to - treat groups (e.g. complex needs, self-harm, personality disorder psychosis, dual diagnosis, persons with additional disabilities etc).
• Knowledge of the theory and practice of at least two specialised psychological therapies - preferably CBT and one other.
• Knowledge of the academic literature of the specialism.
