We have an exciting opportunity to join the pharmacy governance team as a specialist pharmacist, in order to help expand the delivery of key medication safety projects and support the robust framework for medicines governance at University Hospitals Birmingham.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated pharmacist with excellent communication skills, strong work ethic and a track record of delivering on improvement projects to join our friendly team.
You will join a small team with a clear structure and purpose and have the opportunity to work at a Trust level on key projects in order to support our goal of ensuring medicines are used safely within UHB. The role provides an opportunity to expand your expertise and skillset, to be involved in service development or research and to put your management and leadership skills into action with the support of a good team.
We will welcome applications from pharmacists who have significant post registration experience in a hospital setting, have a good understanding of medicines safety issues and an enthusiasm for quality improvement.
The role will be based at one of our hospital sites (which can be discussed at interview), although there will be an expectation that there will be cross site working across all UHB sites as the work requires.
Main duties of the job
As a key member of the pharmacy governance team you will:
*Implement and deliver medication safety projects
*Monitor medication safety and evaluate measures to support safe practice in relation to medication use within pharmacy and across the Trust.
* Raise the profile of medication risk and governance, and ensure a consistently robust approach to potential safety solutions across the Trust
*Support the Associate Chief Pharmacist for Clinical Governance in the delivery of the clinical governance agenda.
*Review Trust medication-related safety events, with a view to identifying common themes, and those requiring additional follow-up or action
*Support the development of education and training in the field of medication safety, amongst pharmacy staff in all areas of practice, and across the multi-disciplinary team where required to meet national standards
*Contribute and participate in research activities around medication safety and governance
*Support the Associate Chief Pharmacist for Clinical Governance in maintaining oversight of policies and guidance containing medicines.
*Support the investigation and analysis of internal adverse or serious safety events
*Provide input into safe medication practice across the Trust, and act as an expert resource in this area

- *4 year vocational Masters degree in pharmacy (or equivalent)
- *Post-graduate clinical pharmacy qualification or equivalent experience
- *Membership of the General Pharmaceutical Council
- *1 year pre-registration training plus specialist knowledge acquired through diploma level
