An exciting opportunity for a band 5 Assistant Psychologist to work closely with the Core CAMHS teams, and another newly recruited Assistant Psychologist, creating and facilitating workshops and group interventions to those on our wait lists . This is alongside offering1:1 interventions and assessments. This is an opportunity for a creative and pro-active person to innovative with our existing team.
Main duties of the job

To assist in specialist evidence-based assessments, interventions and evaluation/ outcome reports for young people and their families as part of the CAMHS-Core Extended team. To triage, assess and monitor our wait lists offering intervention and workshops where appropriate. To assist in the creation of workshops for parents and young people to promote understanding of various mental health presentations. To join closely with colleagues from other services and agencies to promote joint working. To assist in training across sectors and agencies as appropriate.

This post requires the holder, as a member of the Multi-Disciplinary Community Based Team, to maintain a caseload and undertake Cognitive Assessments as well as observations to assist with assessment and formulation of presenting difficulties, under the direct supervision of a Qualified Clinical Psychologist. You will be expected to undertake some direct clinical work, in the form of individual, family and group, that demonstrates a high level of skill in supporting the child/young person and their family where severe, complex and often longstanding difficulties are present.

You will actively participate in service evaluation, audit and outcome measurement to ensure that the locality team delivers high quality evidence-based interventions and will be expected to participate in regular clinical as well as line management supervision.

Job description Job responsibilities

1.1 To undertake psychological assessments, including psychometric tests, questionnaires, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the client's care under the guidance of a Clinical Psychologist within regular clinical supervision.

1.2 To assist in the preparation and delivery of assessment, intervention and care planning reports under the regular clinical and professional supervision of a Clinical Psychologist.

1.3 To assist in the formulation and delivery of care plan and intervention individually, systemically and in groups involving the psychological treatment and/or management of a child or young person's difficulties in line with CAMHS clinical care pathways, under the guidance of a Clinical Psychologist.

1.4 To attend network and planning meetings, case conferences, clinical, team and psychology meetings as well as other relevant meetings as required with guidance from a senior member of the team.

1.5 To be responsible for delivering highly specialist child and adolescent assessments and interventions in a way that is integrated with the work of other disciplines within the team under the guidance of a Clinical Psychologist and other senior members of the team.

1.6Under the guidance of and through regular supervision with a Clinical Psychologist, to provide expertise advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals, contributing directly to young people/family treatment plans.

1.7To contribute a child and adolescent perspective in team clinical discussions.

1.8To identify risk situations for the client group and participate in risk assessments with guidance through the supervision structure.

1.9To prepare materials for specific interventions as required by the team, including communication aids and teaching materials.

1.10 To assist in the co-ordination, running and evaluation of therapeutic and support groups and workshops for both young people and parents.

1.11To assist, where necessary, in the delivery of training to parents/carers and other professionals in conjunction with other members of the team.

1.11To ensure children, young people and their carers / significant others are included in the planning, implementation, delivery and evaluation of care.

1.12To assist in the triage of our current wait list and consideration of appropriate interventions.

1.13To ensure care is delivered in a person-centred manner ensuring the gender, ethnic, cultural and spiritual needs of service users inform practice.

1.14To follow and operate within the Guidelines and Code of Ethics and practice guidelines of the relevant professional body as appropriate.

1.15To act in accordance with legal requirements contained within the Mental Health Act 1983, the Children Act 1994 and other relevant legislation.

1.16With support from senior clinical and Psychology colleagues, to seek to incorporate best practice by integrating the findings from research, audits, investigations, enquiries, complaints and satisfaction surveys in your assessment and intervention.

1.17To ensure care is delivered to incorporate health and social care.

1.18 To participate in audit, collection of statistics and evaluation activity within the speciality under the direction and guidance of the qualified Clinical Psychologist.

1.19To have knowledge of and act in accordance with Solent NHS Trust Child Protection Committee Procedures.

1.20To comply with all Solent NHS policies and procedures.

1.21To participate in regular clinical and line management supervision systems as well as the Individual Performance Review/Appraisal process, CPD, statutory and mandatory training.

1.22To generate clinical care plans and reports for GP's and the multi-agency network.

1.23To maintain a caseload with guidance and regular clinical supervision from a Qualified Clinical Psychologist as well as line management supervision.

1.24To be responsible whenever appropriate to liaise closely and integrate highly specialist child and adolescent clinical work with the work of other agencies.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Hold an upper second or higher BSc/BA Hons degree in Psychology or equivalent.
  • Be eligible for graduate registration with the BPS.
Desirable
  • Further Education, training or experience in research methods and/or audit
Experience Essential
  • Experience of working in a team.
  • Experience of working independently with clients/patients.
Desirable
  • Confidence and experience in working with children, young people and families/carers.
  • Confidence and experience in working with people with and their families/carers and/or people with mental health problems.
  • Experience of liaising with other agencies.
  • Experience of working with Child Protection or other ethical issues including knowledge and skills for working with families where there are children at risk and in need of protection.
  • Experience of alternative methods of communication and/or communicating with individuals who might experience difficulty with understanding or communicating with others.
  • Experience of facilitating group work or developing workshops
Additional Criteria Essential
  • Is able to work legally in the UK
  • Is able to work with children and vulnerable adults
  • Ability to travel daily for meetings across a range of sites in Southampton/Portsmouth/Hampshire.
  • For posts which require a professional registration, postholders hold a valid up to date registration with their professional body.
  • For posts where postholders are required to drive as part of their role they hold a valid full driving licence which enables them to drive in the UK
