Musgrove Park Hospital Theatres are expanding intro a new Surgical Centre in 2025. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a experienced theatre practitioner to join our leadership team. We require a team leader who can deliver and support the service with improving utilisation, and ensuring patients are receiving the best possible care. It is desirable that the candidate has experience of all general surgical specialities, specifically colorectal and urology, or willing to learn.
Successful applicants must be able to lead, teach and support junior staff in all aspects of perioperative practice. You will also ensure full utilisation of theatres with emphasis on maintenance, safety and compliance with protocols and guidelines.
We would welcome applicants with excellent organisational skills who could lead a team of registered practitioner's and health care assistants in an ever expanding, exciting service which has patient care at the centre of everything we do.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will act as a role model in the delivery of consistent, high quality perioperative practice. They will deputise for the clinical manager and will support the leadership and management of the wider operating department, with an emphasis on quality care and clinical standards.
The theatre team leader will have an understanding of finances, the deployment, delegation and supervision of all grades of staff and be visible and approachable for patients, staff and visitors. They will facilitate and promote team work within a multi-professional environment.

- NMC Registered Nurse / HCPC Registered Operating Department Practitioner
- Knowledge of a broad range of theatre procedures and instrumentation/ processes equivalent to post graduate level acquired through Diploma /Degree plus experience and
- further study or qualification or an equivalent level of knowledge associated with the practice setting.
Experience

- Recent experience within theatres working as a registered practitioner in an acute practice setting involving the supervision/education of junior staff
- Professional portfolio which demonstrates continuing professional development, evidence of ability to maintain professional registration
- Evidence of effective multi-professional working
- Experienced mentor / assessor /student supervisor
Desirable
- Experience of supporting the implementation change including new procedures/ processes
- Evidence of the ability to confidently lead / coordinate a shift / area of the department
- Evidence of the ability to organise others and forward plan and review/ adjust staff rotas
