Due to the recent expansion of the CT and IR departments, we have new posts available to support the service.

These posts will require you to rotate through both the CT and IR departments and partake in both OOH's services.

Experience in CT or IR is essential, however full training will be provided. You will be required to work across both our sites, Countess of Chester and Ellesmere Port Hospital.

The Countess of Chester Hospital is the regional vascular centre and a trauma unit and we currently have 4 Canon CT scanners, 3 at the Countess and 1 at our community diagnostic hub in Ellesmere Port Hospital.

We have a well-established cardiac CT service and have strong links with cardiology, stoke and trauma teams.

We have recently opened a brand new purpose built IR theatre and currently have 2 IR rooms, both containing canon equipment. The IR Radiographers provide a PICC line service to the trust and we have an advanced practitioner nephrostomy exchange service.

Applicants from current band 5 or 6 are welcome to apply. Please note if you are currently a band 5 and don't have relevant experience at this level a training period will be required. After successful completion of this you will then be awarded a band 6.

Main duties of the job

1. To perform high standard radiographic duties as required, including specialist responsibility appropriate to the post and be familiar with all protocols associated with each area of work.2. To perform intravenous cannulisation and administration of IV contrast agent where appropriate.3. To participate in the out of hours rota as required.4. Maintain privacy and Dignity of patients at all times whilst performing examinations.5. Prioritise patient's attending for examination according to their individual needs and condition. Ensure knowledge of emergency procedures.6. To be familiar with Major Incident Policy and all aspects of emergency procedures.

A BSc/DCR in radiography is essential and you must be registered with the HCPC.

About us

The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides services to West Cheshire and to Welsh patients covered by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The Trust works collaboratively within the wider Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership. Its services are provided from three locations:
  • The Countess of Chester Hospital: providing 438 general and acute beds
  • Ellesmere Port Hospital: providing 56 beds as a rehabilitation, intermediate and outpatient facility
  • Tarporley War Memorial Hospital: a base for community services which serve the local rural population.

The Trust employs over 6258 staff (headcount) which includes temporary bank staff and provides acute emergency and elective services, primary care direct access services and obstetric services to a population of approximately 407,000. This includes 357,000 residents in Chester and West Cheshire which includes Ellesmere Port and Neston as well as the Deeside area of Flintshire which has a population of approximately 50,000.

The Trust is a busy district general hospital and in 2022/2023, there were more than 503,342 patient attendances (inpatient, outpatient and diagnostic) ranging from a simple outpatient appointment to major cancer surgery. This is an increase of nearly 10,000 compared to the previous year when there were 494,387 patient attendances.

Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £27.50(standard) or £55.50(enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first three months of employment.

  • HCPC registered

  • Recognised cannulation qualification

  • Be adaptable, competent and safe in the operation of a variety of specialist equipment
  • Relevant post registration experience in specialist area
  • ILS training
  • Relevant experience in an acute NHS trust
