The Cellular Pathology and Cancer Diagnostics Division provides diagnostic and screening services across East and South-East London, handling a combined workload of 120,000 histology and 15,000 cytology specimens annually. The successful candidate will join a friendly team of scientists and doctors in modern laboratories, conveniently located near underground and DLR services. Our laboratory is accredited by both UKAS and IBMS, and we are dedicated to supporting continuing professional development, as evidenced by our excellent training record.

Main duties of the job
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the NHS East and Southeast London Pathology Partnership (ESEL). We are seeking a driven, proactive, and dynamic leader to take on the role of LGT Cellular Pathology Operational Lead. The successful candidate will be based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich, and University Hospital, Lewisham. The Operational Lead will be responsible for overseeing and managing the Cellular Pathology Departments at each site. Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, day-to-day workload management, staff and skill mix management, equipment management, safety systems oversight, quality assurance and improvement, incident management, and change management. The Cellular Pathology Manager will provide support for this role.Current HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist and possession of an MSc in Biomedical Science or an equivalent qualification at the MSc level are essential. Meeting these criteria is mandatory and must be clearly indicated in the application.

The NHS East and South East London Pathology Partnership is an arms-length organisation providing pathology services to Barts Health NHS Trust, Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. The Pathology Partnership is hosted by Barts Health.
The Pathology Partnership is based on well-established models for pathology networks, with the Royal London Hospital becoming the main hub laboratory for the network and Essential Service Laboratories (ESL) as a minimum at all other Hospital sites.
Pathology is made up of the following services - Blood Sciences including Haematology, Blood Transfusion and Biochemistry Infectious Diseases including Microbiology and Virology Cellular Pathology including Histopathology, non-gynae Cytology and mortuary services Immunology Cytogenetics and Molecular Haematology Immunophenotyping Clinical Transplantation and Retinoblastoma.
The 2020/21 total operating costs across the Partnership were c. £126m per annum with a workforce establishment of circa. 822 WTE.
