An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated Band 5 Staff Nurse with excellent communication skills to work as part of the Outpatient nursing team across sites at Princess Royal University Hospital, Orpington Hospital, Beckenham Beacon and Queen Mary's Hospital.

Outpatient's is a diverse, multidisciplinary environment which requires flexible and adaptable skills, an aptitude to learn and a motivation to develop your own skills.

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, organised and committed to give high quality nursing care and be able to work autonomously as well as part of a team. You will consistently ensure that a patient's privacy, dignity and psychological well-being is maintained and at all times, that the care given is patient centred.

You need to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. We require individuals who are forward thinking, well organised and with a positive attitude towards flexibility and change.

Main duties of the job

  • To work within Care Group across sites to provide, facilitate and further develop a comprehensive patient centred outpatients' service.
  • Ensure that all activities in the area are carried out within Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust policy guidelines.
  • Promote the objectives of the Trust's Vision and Philosophy for Nursing.
  • Ensure that all duties are carried out in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
  • Assist in the implementation of national improvement initiatives i.e. the NHS Plan, National Service Frameworks, Essence of Care and Clinical Governances.

Job responsibilities

  • To work within the department to both provide and further develop the service.
  • Clinical role model.
  • Assist junior staff in the assessment of patients and advise when necessary.
  • Maintain and interpret the significance of data with regards to the patients health status and communicate this within multi-disciplinary team (MDT).
  • Act as an effective role model to the nursing team in the delivery of nursing care.
  • Assist and supervise junior staff to enable them to assess, plan and evaluate care for patients attending the outpatients department.
  • Aware of NMC Code of Professional Practice and ensure that individual professional developments are in line with this concept and are approved and agreed by the Trust.
  • Take responsibility for the correct administration, safe custody and storage of drugs when appropriate. This includes management of FP10s.
  • Ensure own mandatory training is up to date.Conform to Trust and department policies regarding reporting of sickness and the booking of annual leave.
  • Set good example of role modelling and being approachable and supportive to the Manager and staff.
  • With the Manager, perform regular appraisals of junior staff within an acceptable time frame.


Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse (RN1) with active NMC registration at time of starting appointment.


Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Clinical expertise relevant to the area.


Skills and Competencies

Essential

  • Communication skills - able to relate and communicate with patients and staff at all levels and from different professions. Adapts communication style as necessary and is able to work with and through others.
  • Team building and working skills - able to lead a team to achieve results.
