The Physical Health Psychology Service is a team of psychologists, therapists and counsellors who aim to assist our service users in adapting to and living well with, physical health problems. The BCHFT Physical Health Psychology Service currently operates across 3 geographical patches (Dudley, Wolverhampton and Sandwell and West Birmingham) with a number of contracts in each area. There are 36 services in total across this geographical area. These include Cancer and Palliative Care, Stroke and Neuropsychology, Paediatrics, Pain, General Medicine as well as some specialist areas such as Behcets Disease and Sickle Cell and Thalassemia.

Due to the growth and development of Physical Health Psychology across the Black Country, we currently have a vacancy for a Senior Clinical/Counselling Psychologist to work across a number of different areas within Physical Health Psychology. This will be a varied and interesting post, with the potential to develop skills and expertise across the range of physical health conditions and settings. The post holder will be expected to be flexible, as there will be a requirement to work in different parts of the service according to service need. We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and flexible HCPC registered Clinical or Counselling Psychologists to work with us in this role.

Main duties of the job

We are a large team of over 40 staff and the post holder will be provided with supervision and support from the Principal Clinical/Counselling Psychologist in the area they will be working in, with oversight from the Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Service Manager. Due to the size of the service, peer support from other Senior Applied Psychologists is also available.

Physical Health Psychology is part of the wider Mental Health Division within BCHFT, where there is an even wider network of Applied Psychologists with opportunities for excellent professional support and development. There are currently a number of initiatives in development across the Division and the Trust to support and develop Psychological Professionals.

About us

We expect the post holder to provide assessment, formulation and intervention to individual clients, their families and carers, which would be tailored to their individual needs. There may also be the opportunity to offer groups as well as teaching and training to staff groups, consultation and joint working. Across the services we are looking to develop stepped care models with our MDT colleagues. The successful applicant would also be able to formulate and intervene at a systemic level, as well as individual level, and will need to be able to link in with complex care pathways and wider systems to support the planning of rehab and care of the patients' physical health condition.

Job description Job responsibilities

Experience of working in a physical health setting is important, but we would consider applications for candidates, working outside of physical health, who feel they have transferable skills. We would expect applicants to have an understanding of this client group and models of psychological care in this setting.

In return for your enthusiasm, hard work and commitment you will benefit from being part of an expanding service with good support structures.

The post holder will have opportunities for personal support and development via the Trust appraisal system. A robust supervision structure is in place across the Physical Health Psychology service, so the post holder will be well supported.

Job share and flexible working would all be considered.
