To provide confidential and consistent contraception and sexual health services within nurse led clinics and alongside medical colleagues.

Working as an Independent Practitioner, the role requires professional leadership - acting as a role model to junior staff and treating patients within Sexual Health, as well as acting as the Senior Nurse at clinics when required and deputising in the absence of the Lead Nurse.

Main duties of the job

  • Work according to the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code of Professional Conduct and relevant professional guidelines, taking responsibility for the assessment of care and health education needs.
  • To take charge of clinics and to ensure the continuity of the day to day management of the service.
  • Participate in and run nurse-led clinics (to include assessment and diagnosis). Use professional judgment to seek advice or refer to medical colleagues as clinically indicated.
  • To provide a range of nursing skills within the Pregnancy Advisory Service to include the termination suite, Integrated Sexual Health clinics and outlying locality clinics, these skills will include (but not limited to) examination, microscopy, venepuncture, consent for terminations etc. This will include some evenings and possibly weekends.
  • To support, monitor and nurse patients attending for termination of pregnancy.
  • To perform ultrasound scanning for the assessment of patients in pregnancy advisory and complex contraception (if qualified to do so), or be prepared to undertake training to do so.

The qualification, training & experience requirements for the role are underlined in the Job Description/Person Specification.

About us

We have in excess of 5000 staff working over 50 sites, providing a diverse range of services. We strive to support an organisational culture that is welcoming, builds and celebrates inclusivity and diversity and provides a sense of belonging and trust.

The annual NHS Staff Surveygives our people the opportunity to tell us about their experience working at the Trust. For the 2023 survey just over 2800 colleagues gave us their views (58.5%). It was great to see from the results that colleagues are saying that:
  • 89.7% believe they are making a positive difference to patients/service users
  • 73.3% would recommend the organisation as a place to work
  • 82.4% agree that care of patients and service users is the organisations priority
  • 76.7% would be happy with the standard of care for a friend or relative

Our results put us as 5th nationally as a Community, Mental Health and Learning Disabilities NHS Employer of Choice and 1st equal amongst all NHS Provider Trusts in the South West. However, we know we have more to do and will continue to drive forward our commitment to making GHC a Great Place to Work.
