An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Community Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy team. We have a permanent vacancy for an Advanced physiotherapist.

Applicants should be registered with the HCPC and Chartered Society of Physiotherapists.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide a highly specialised service that includes the assessment, treatment and management of children and adolescents with a range of chronic, complex and life limiting conditions.
  • To act as a source of expertise and demonstrate advanced knowledge and experience in the highly skilled management of children with neurological and developmental dysfunction and orthopaedic conditions within the community setting.
  • To provide specialist advice to other inter-agency professional staff and to provide clinical education and training to others including more junior therapists, support staff and students.
  • To take a lead role in the management of more difficult and complex cases within a multi-disciplinary team approach acting as an autonomous practitioner.
  • To work in the community setting frequently as a lone Practitioner in line with the Trusts lone worker policy.

    Person Specification

    Qualifications

    Essential

    • Degree / Diploma in Physiotherapy
    • HPC Registration
    • Relevant post graduate courses
    • Portfolio evidence of reflective practice


    Desirable

    • MSc in Paediatric Physiotherapy or equivalent
    • Member of APCP
    • Research qualification


    Experience

    Essential

    • Relevant and substantial paediatric neurology / neurodisability / neuromuscular
    • Assessment and provision of disability equipment.
    • Standardised Assessment tools.
    • Outcome measures.
    • Audit / Research / Service Evaluation.


    Desirable

    • Active involvement in relevant CSP special interest groups or voluntary organisations
    • Appraisal / supervision / teaching of more junior staff
    • Postural Management


    Knowledge

    Essential

    • Neurological / Developmental physiotherapy
    • Safeguarding procedures.
    • Understanding of the legal responsibilities of the profession.
    • Advanced understanding of clinical governance and it's implications for services.
    • Understanding of family / team dynamics and how to develop working relationships with all involved in the child's care.
    • Understanding of the impact of disability on children and their families.
    • Understanding of data protection, confidentiality and health and safety requirements in meeting the needs of the child and family.
