We are excited to advertise for a full time Band 7 Specialist Clinical Psychologist. We are CARE Excellence and QNCC-ED Accredited and are extremely well resourced and therefore very able to meet and surpass our local and national clinical targets.

You will be responsible for the continuation of the psychology provision for children & young people who meet the criteria for the Surrey Eating Disorder Service for Children and Young People and those who have other co-morbidities.

A strong interest in working with Eating Disorders is essential and previous experience of working with young people with eating disorders is desirable. Applicants requesting a split post will be considered, though the full-time role is preferable. We welcome applications from newly qualified Clinical Psychologists, and from those in their final year of Clinical Psychology Training.

Car driver is essential and access to a vehicle, as there will be some travel at times.

Main duties of the job

To provide specialist psychological assessment of children with moderate to severe eating disorders, often complex in presentation.

To formulate and implement plans of specialist psychological treatment or management of clients’ mental health problems based on a multi-factorial psychological understanding and current evidence-based best practice taking into account the current NICE guidelines, and recommended specialist treatment protocols for eating disorders.

To undertake a range of psychological therapeutic interventions, drawing on a range of psychological models and employing a range of modalities (individual, family/systemic and group) adapted and tailored to the needs of the individual and the context, and to undertake ongoing evaluation of the outcome of the interventions.

To contribute to the evaluation of the Service by participating in service-related audit, research and evaluation projects.

To maintain confidentiality while appropriately sharing information as required to partner agencies in line with Caldicott requirements and Child Protection Guidelines.

To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of clinical work and care. To maintain high standards of care in all areas of practice in accordance with the HCPC Code of Conduct, professional guidelines and Trust Policies and Procedures. To act within the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act (2005). To be aware of and implement Safeguarding Adult and Child Protection Policies, Procedures and legislation.

To provide specialist psychological assessment of children with moderate to severe eating disorders, often complex in presentation. To undertake the assessment utilising information from a broad range of structured psychometric and semi-structured clinical methods. To integrate this information into a psychological formulation of the client and his/her psychosocial environment, drawing on a range of psychological theoretical perspectives.

To formulate and implement plans of specialist psychological treatment or management of clients’ mental health problems based on a multi-factorial psychological understanding and current evidence-based best practice taking into account the current NICE guidelines, and recommended specialist treatment protocols for eating disorders.

To undertake a range of psychological therapeutic interventions, drawing on a range of psychological models and employing a range of modalities (individual, family/systemic and group) adapted and tailored to the needs of the individual and the context, and to undertake ongoing evaluation of the outcome of the interventions. To undertake treatments recommended by NICE guidelines, as appropriate, and to keep up to date with relevant developments in the practice of these recommended treatments.

To remain informed of and critically evaluate current theory and research to support evidence-based practice in own professional work and to contribute this perspective in the multi-disciplinary team.

To contribute to the evaluation of the Service by participating in service-related audit, research and evaluation projects. To contribute to the project management of complex audit, assisting colleagues to develop service provision.

Working knowledge of legislation & its implications for both clinical practice & professional management in relation to the client group & mental health

To work within the Code of Ethics and the relevant professional practice guidelines of the Health Professions Council (HCPC), the British Psychological Society (BPS) and the professional guidance framework of the Trust.

To maintain confidentiality while appropriately sharing information as required to partner agencies in line with Caldicott requirements and Child Protection Guidelines.

Person Specification Experience Essential
  • - Experience of working with people from across the life span with a range of mental health issues and cognitive profiles
  • - Working knowledge across a range of psychological models including systemic, behavioral and individual therapeutic
  • - Specialist understanding of the impact of language, culture, gender, ethnicity & disability in shaping attitudes, abilities & difficulties
  • - Specialist understanding of the importance of professional boundaries and how to manage & maintain them
  • - Experience of supervising assistant and trainee clinical psychologists
Qualifications Essential
  • - HCPC Registered Practitioner Psychologist
  • - Doctorate in Clinical or Counselling Psychology qualification or equivalent
  • - Current practicing certificate
