The post holder will provide comprehensive Specialist Oncology doctor oversight of the delivery of non-surgical oncology (including SACT) to patients with LGI and UGI across West Wales. You will provide a clinical service, with colleagues, which will include the responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness.
This post will also support a nurse led model for Acute Oncology within Carmarthenshire with the support of an AOS clinical lead for HDUHB.
HDUHB work within a hub & spoke model for Oncology provision, which is supported by visiting Consultant Oncologists from the SWWCC (South West Wales Cancer Centre) in Swansea.
As a senior employee of the Health Board the post holder will work in close co-operation with, and support other clinical, medical professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Health Board's patients.
Specific Responsibilities of the Post
Main duties of the job
This post is for a specialist grade Medical Oncologist with a sub specialist interest in Lower GI and Upper GI and will support AOS locally. This is a 10 session post and working hours are flexible to accommodate candidates who may have caring duties. There are opportunities to develop off site working as needed to allow remote SACT prescribing via the ChemoCare Electronic Prescribing System, MDT participation and outpatient clinics Face to Face, via telephone or attend anywhere.
The post holder will support visiting consultant Oncologists covering LGI & UGI across the West Wales Region. They will provide non-surgical oncology care including SACT for patients with LGI & UGI cancers in the Hywel Dda University Health Board. There is Oncology CNS support for these patient groups.
This post will also support a nurse led model for Acute Oncology within Carmarthenshire.

- Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice
- MRCP or equivalent
- Valid Certified Advanced Life Support Skills
- Completion of at least 12 years medical experience since obtaining primary medical qualification (with at least 7 years in Oncology)
