This is an exciting opportunity to join the South East Op Courage Veterans Mental Health and Wellbeing Service. As a Mental Health Nurse, Occupational Therapist or Social Worker, you, as a part of a multi disciplinary team, will primarily deliver the service across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight with the occasional need to support colleagues in other regions.

You will provide specialist assessment and formulation for veterans and transitioning military personnel presenting with complex mental health, substance misuse and social care issues. You will deliver psycho-educational packages as well referring on to relevant services/agencies and offering advice and consultation on clients' psychological care to multidisciplinary mental health staff, third-sector agencies and other, non-professional carers.

This is a busy service and your self-care is important to us. We offer a blended model of delivery including face to face and online and there are opportunities for home working to ensure a good work / life balance. We will also consider part-time/flexible working patterns.

Main duties of the job

  • have clinical responsibility for a case load as specified by the Service Manager or Team Lead.
  • be responsible for delivering specific mental health interventions within their scope of practice and will work with the multidisciplinary team to deliver the plan of care in line with the NICE and other relevant standards and guidelines.
  • be responsible for devising high quality holistic mental health assessments and risk assessments/safety plans/crisis prevention plans with people on their caseload.
  • have leadership skills and as an experienced mental health practitioner will direct and supervise junior staff and/or students within their area of responsibility
  • assertively engage with clients, striving at all times to develop good therapeutic relationships.
  • establish and maintain good liaison with colleagues working in emotional wellbeing and mental health services in the locality including veterans charities and other 3rd sector organisations

Job responsibilities

The must haves for this role:
  • Registration with a recognised approved body and relevant qualification.
  • Registered Mental Health Nurse (NMC)/ Occupational Therapy level qualification and registered with HPCP/ Registered Social Worker with relevant social work qualification.
  • Experience of managing complex caseloads (substance misuse, traumatised people, PTSD) and applying a range of evidence based interventions (risk assessments and safety planning).
  • A passion for working with veterans and a knowledge of the issues surrounding common mental health difficulties and social care needs in the military veteran population.

  • Ability to manage clinical risk and understanding of current government policies concerning the provision of mental health care
